getting a vasectomy

Nobody has mentioned using abortion as a contraceptive. It was discussed as rectifying an "accident" as discussed earlier in the thread.

It is also obvious that nobody can force anyone to have an abortion. However it is an option which is 100% effective at correcting an "accident". And it is something that can be paid for as an alternative to two people who are not in love and are not a couple having to jointly raise a child together when neither one wants to or desires to, nor has the wherewithal or proper parenting skills to do so. The OP used the term "baby rape" and I had no idea what he was talking about. I did not interpret the comment literally as a woman raping a man because in most cases it is not possible.

Sorry, Pal, I've gotta call bullshit on you. When you mentioned abortion as an alternative to vasectomy, you clearly regarded it as a form of contraception. Vasectomy is a form of contraception; anything used as an alternative is, by definition, a form of contraception as well, though in this case, your recommendation is clearly well outside the mainstream.

The OP was talking about preventing accidents (he specifically mentioned the condom popping) and someone said get a vasectomy. I said another method that was cheaper is an abortion. I don't think it is possible for abortion to be a form of contraception. We were talking about prevention of accidents or so I thought.

In the OP's example the condom has already been used (and failed) as the contraceptive method. In that situation the objective then is to prevent a child birth.

Now ALL posters, re-read the 1st post and answer that question.
It's not about ethical values or the benefits to using vasectomy versus abortions (2 completely different things in my mind.)

Really simple procedure, you could maybe have a light discomfort for few days, and that's it. Just follow the instructions of your eventual doctor. There's thousands of men who have lived it, all around the world.

I am not really sure if it is easily reversible, if ever you want a child a day, consider to have it before having the operation. Even an eventual clipping might undamaged your deferens canals permanently.

To know a good doctor in your area, maybe you could call Info Santé to start. A nurse will answer to you.

That's considered as a little intervention.

Snoodle, here is some more down to earth info if you live in the province of Québec.

Looking for a good doctor is not a relevant question. Doctors who do vasectomies perform hundreds of them every year. They are good at it.

Call your nearest CLSC, even if you are not registered there. They will tell you where to go. You will call where ever they tell you, often a hospital. You'll get an appointment. Once there, they will ask you to fill the usual red tape, fill a questionary to determine if you are eligible and given information, usually with the group of patients operated the same day. Then all of you guys will go one after the other to get the work done, usually by a doctor assisted by two nurses. It takes around 15 minutes. They give you local anesthetic (you will not feel the needle). Then they dig in and make the cut. You don't feel anything when they take the canal out but will feel it when the cut is made (really nothing to write to your mother). They'll put a band aid and ask you to wait for 20-30 minutes in the waiting room. Then, off you go. You'll be back at your work space the day after with a bit of discomfort easily done with by using some ice. That's it. And it is totally free. And you will feel good to have taken personal responsibility about contraception.

To go back to the original topic, mine was done at the mediacl clinique at Le Sanctuaire. You pay a small extra fee because it is a semi private clinic, but there is no waiting time, and they do a good job 9at least they did with me). Hope this helps.

There are some doctors who will not perform a vasectomy on younger men without children. I had two children already when I had mine.

I've toyed with the idea of getting a vasectomy after having some sperm frozen and stored. Any thoughts?

1 Vasectomy is intended for men who are 100% sure they will not want kids for the rest of their life. There is no way you'll convince a doctor otherwise.

2 Snoodle, if you are scared to have a doctor poke your private parts for a simple vasectomy, you'd be literally terrorized by the poke in case of a reversal, a complex and costly operation.

3 AV, I don't think there are many cryogenic facilities in Québec. You'll have to pay a yearly cost of a few hundred $. This is not covered by the RAMQ.
