I get anxiety bc I can't see them all when I come to town...
I just started dating someone but my mind is constantly on my ex, I feel bad that I’m thinking about another woman, but getting into dating has brought up old memories, my ex was everything I wanted in a woman, and I don’t feel like anyone else could come close. I know you shouldn’t compare but I can’t help it. I feel guilty for how I feel and saddened by the loss.
I have been living that for 20 years on at least 2 exes, even if my current partner is a great woman. Certain exes have a talent to stay stuck in your brains forever.
However, interesting story, one of them, I saw in a restaurant years after we broke up totally by chance. She had changed so much that I felt zero attraction. This to a point I realized I was relieved I wasn't with her anymore, even though she was the one that broke up with me. Still to this day, I still think about how she was when we were together.
This happens often, we're not attached to the other person, but to the memory of them. The memory of the good things we had together because a lot of emotions are linked to those souvenirs. It's important to make the difference. Our memory is one of the biggest traitors, I find.
People change but memories are a snapshot frozen in time.

I was intrigued by your comment. I figured it is related to the comment you made at 9:59 PM on another thread. If it is, I agree with you. Sadly, it is difficult for some people to sympathize if they didn't have the same experience. White people denying the existence of institutional racism or men mocking the trauma of women that were sexually abused
There is empathy and there is compassion. To have empathy (understand what is like walking in someone else's shoes) having lived it really helps.
But to have compassion (wanting to reduce pain and suffering) you don't need to have experienced it. You just need a heart.
So while some people may not be able to understand others because they don't have the same experience, this is no excuse to be heartless.
