I am saying that I never had syrup on them myself and that I cannot imagine a Japanese person putting soy sauce on their pancake.

More like this. They are usually very thick and fluffy / soft. I don’t recall any kind of syrup (definitely no soy sauce) on them. It was mainly some sugar powder and fruits. It’s been over a decade since I had them in Japan.

They are amazing but I have yet to find a place in Montreal that makes them properly.
