The idea of a partial reopening of the border on a state by state basis is of course ridiculous on its face. If anything, it is Vermont, New Hampshire and Maine who would then close their borders with Quebec. Not much harm in daydreaming though.

Same here. I was (sort of) surprised that they decided to extend the closure, but I think it is for the last time. Although if they keep insisting on a quarantine for all visitors, that will be equally useless as far as tourism is concerned.

The NY state numbers (405,705 / 30,980) are indeed horrendous (speaking of governors), but the vast majority of those cases are of course in NY city, nowhere close to Canada. So, again, the residents of upstate NY ought to be kept safe from their Québécois neighbours.
