I'm mystified by your comment - the texture was gross but it was really good ? I thought those two were mutually exclusive. Is this a molten chocolate cake? It is served warm, and as you cut into it chocolate sauce oozes out.

Junk food thread: Stuff that taste great but can kill you.

Not Junk Food, But Still Dangerous Go to Pied de Cochon and OD on foie gras. Very definitely not junk food, and very definitely not as cheap. But oh so delicious !

Are you implying (by "I'd love to") that you may not be able to tell the story? i.e. you would be pushing up daisies. :)

I did not realize that you were a gourmand ! :)

Do you not also have to say "chers" as it's plural ?

It does mean "dear", but it also means "expensive". BTW in English "dear" may also mean expensive - a happy coincidence where both French and English agree !

Are you saying that the discussion during the hijacking did not help you learn French ? It sure helped me; I'm an anglophone who is far from fluent in French, and figtree's explanation of the difference between when you use beau and belle was very educational. It removed one more veil between me...

I am not a fan of tourtiere as I generally find it tasteless; to date I have not come across one I have liked. I have not tried the one from Lac-Saint-Jean, but it sounds a lot more interesting, especially since it contains game. Now include some organ meats, and we are talking, but then it is...

Worth the detour Not tourtiere, but: Last weekend I came across a traiteur in St. Sauveur called, "Chez Bernard". Among the delights they sell was a tourte au confit de canard ($14.95), and it was delicious ! Definitely worth the detour !

Here's another weird one. It has always struck me as strange that there is a hotel in Montreal called, "Le Reine Elizabeth"; I would have expected "La". It was explained to me that "hotel" is masculine, and that is why. Which brings me to my pet peeve about French...those damn genders given to...

    Bose's surround sound system

One thing I should mention is when evaluating speakers be careful about the music you use. As an example, I enjoy watching Shakira's "Hips Don't Lie" video on my computer, and listen to the music on my cheap computer speakers of course. I bought the CD yesterday so I could listen to a better...

Yeah, I know. I would be better off, after a fine meal with a nice babe, to sing, "Que c'est beau, c'est beau la vie"........which brings me to the question: why would you use "beau" with "LA vie" ? Why not "belle"?

    M. Spiderman, T'aimes Brel toi aussi ? ("Ne Me Quitte Pas"). If the answer is "Oui", does that mean you like or love Brel's music ? :p And why should I not use the lyrics of French songs to seduce girls ??? What immediately comes to mind is a song that begins, "Voulez-vous", though of...

    The French Learning Thread

The thing that amazes me about French ("the language of love") is that there is no way to differentiate between, "I like you" and "I love you". And please don't tell me about "Je suis en amour avec toi" because that is "I am in love with you", not "I love you", which are two totally different...

    Bose's surround sound system

I concur. I too have spent insane amounts of money on audio, and am still looking for the nirvana I experience in a concert hall listening to a symphony orchestra. And yes, that has shaped my tastes. I would like to add that we make some great small speakers in Canada. Check out Totem, Paradigm...

JMLabs do make nice speakers. I am an engineer too (though not a sound engineer), and own large Martin-Logans. Thanks for the link. I'll check it out.

    Bose's surround sound system

Actually, size DOES matter. For true bass you need to move a large amount of air, which a small cone cannot do As the sound is colored they are okay for home theater, but less suitable for hi-fi.
