If one only has Canadian citizenship cannot open a bank account with a US bank, how do snowbirds cope with staying in the sates for couple months? Do they mostly use a cross border accounts w/TD or RBC?

Just wondering if anyone has done it or in the same boat, what are your banking experience south of the border? Can canadians open accounts in the US? what documents should I bring? is there anyway to avoid the monthly account charge?

Am saving a fortune by not traveling....and all these news about inflation are making me nervous (again). So... any idea where to buy some physical gold bar/bullion/coin for a new hobby and perhaps investment?
