Affleck slams star obsession

Ben Affleck has spoken out against celebrity culture, claiming the public's obsession with actors is ruining the magic of Hollywood.

(BANG) - Ben Affleck claims the public's obsession with celebrities is ruining the magic of movies.

The actor - who has sparked early Oscar buzz with his portrayal of tragic 'Superman' actor George Reeves in his new movie 'Hollywoodland' - says the intense interest in stars' personal lives is blurring the line between fantasy and reality, making films less believable.

At a press conference at the Venice Film Festival, he fumed: "I think more and more people pay attention to actors' private lives and that makes it difficult to suspend disbelief when you are going to watch their movie.

"That's because really what you are thinking about is whatever you have read about them in a magazine rather than the performance they are giving, and it makes the actor's job harder."

He added: "The movies become incidental pit-stops and commercial breaks in the soap opera of actors' lives."

Meanwhile, another attendee at the Italian festival, Ethan Hawke thinks people's fascination with celebrities isn't a bad thing.

Hawke - who is promoting his new movie, 'The Hottest State', which is based on his own cult novel - said: "If the paparazzi are bothering you, it probably means you are having a pretty wonderful life."

Affleck has not exactly shied away from media attention, so I take his comments with a very large grain of salt. You reap what you sow.

I am looking forward to that movie, though. Will I think of Ben fucking Jennifer Lopez when I see his character fuck Toni Mannix in the movie? Maybe. Probably.
