Alternative to the Chablis

Last time I used the Chablis was September 17 and I was charged 55$ for a regular room. I mentioned that they had raised their prices AGAIN and was told that this was a “regular plus” room which means that it has been renovated. All other regular rooms were in maintenance. I agree that the decor was nicer than the others I have seen but still, between 42$ and 55$ for 4 hours there is a difference! It is quite an increase in one year (far more than the cost of living - an average of what, 2.5%?). It also increases the cost of seeing the ladies without any financial benefit to the lady.

I have used the Colibri once and I will admit that the Chablis is nicer but the cost was only 25$ (left 30$ at check-in and they returned a 5$ key deposit afterwards). I am now reconsidering my choice of the Chablis as primary place to book a room. I don’t know which other hotels/motels on St-Jacques (or any place in the west end) have a 4 hour rate, how nice their rooms are and if they ask for ID. All input will be gladly received.

Forget the other hotels on St-Jacques, they make the Colibri look like a luxury palace.

Except perhaps the last one going west, I forgot the name but I have never been there...

Now THAT is a scary thought!!! IMO even the Colibri is a dump. I only book there when the Chablis is full and it is too late to cancel with an SP...

That would be Motel Raphael I believe... I don't think they're too big on the escort thing. I think they make most of their $$$ with rooms rented by the week and the month for low income people or people who can't get a regular rent because of bad crefit or a crminal past or workers who come to MTL for a brief period... That's the impression I got from trying to book a room there a few years ago as well as from talking to buddies of mine who also hobby.

BTW Peter Sergakis (owner of many strip joints such as Les Amazones also on St-Jacques) is apparently building a new one to compete with the Chablis across from The Lowblaw... There's a sign there that says it will be open in 2007 but the old buildings there have not been torn down yet.

The last time I was at the Sunrise on St-Jacques, there was not one lightbulb in the room  (an indication that it was being used by injection drug users; they have been known to cook their drugs in the base of lightbulbs)

Chablis overpricing

I checked their web site today and it shows a rate of 50$ for a "regular plus" room, not 55$. Perhaps the receptionists try to cash in? In the past they have always charged me more than the 40-42 (base price for regular room) listed on the web.

Have others been charged the same as me?

It was 46 about 6 months ago, 50 now and 55 for a regular "renovated" room.
Last week I was offered a regular at 50 or a renovated at 55.

Can anybody tell me if it's true that we can find decent hotels on St-Hubert street who offers rooms for a couple of hours?

Thanks!

Motels on St-Hubert are mostly real dumps, maybe BonAcceuil might be acceptable, and the TajMahal dont allow renting for hobby.

The Quality Hotel on Park avenue offers rooms for 4 hours but they are expensive, I believe it is $70!

Colibri, one knotch up from a flea bag motel. (without the fleas)

If you go to the Colibri, I am certain it is not for the decor. I have been told more than once that the place is owned by an ex-Montreal cop:eek: , can anyone verify this or tell me they have heard the same rumor?

30$ room

A few weeks ago I drove by the Econolodge on Taschereau, where A & C operates, and their sign said "sieste 30$". Don't know if this is for 3 or 4 hours but it would do, except if one is taking multiple hours with a lady. I have never been in one of their rooms. Can I assume that they are larger than Colibri and somewhere between Colibri and Chablis as far as decor? Something like this would suit me quite well for a rdv.
