BTW, people saying GPS should be used need to understand GPS is accurate to 5m in good environments and worst in bad environments. Not good enough.
You don’t need accuracy higher than 5 m. As soon as you identify the building or the store through GOOGLE Maps where you have been simultaneously with the infected person say for 15 min or more is sufficient ground to be concerned. In close quarters 2 m is not a magic number as aerosols stay in the air for a long time. Rare situation when you stay with a stranger for 15 minutes very close outside of any building can be neglected unless you are on the buss. Google Map in combination with GPS can easily find out if you were on the public transport (speed). Current application only warns you when you are in contact with a person who is already tested positive. But this person should be in isolation anyway and is breaking the law if walking on the street. So it is improbable situation. What you really need is to know if this person was in contact with you 2-3 days prior when he was infected but was not symptomatic. For this, identifying the building or the store is enough to be warned. This kind of software was tested in Israel and worked greate before privacy advocates shut it down. In fact, it does automatic and almost instant contact tracing.

While I agree that GPS and Geolocation could help in specific situations, it isn't an option since public opinion wants no part of it.
GPS can not determine if you were within 6 feet of someone. Perfect example. I was waiting for the bus. There was a person 15 feet away from me, outdoor and we waited 20minutes. 0 danger, but GPS could raise a flag. Bluetooth works much better than GPS in this situation.
But I agree GPS could add more data, but it's not an option.

People are paranoid about GeloLocation, refuse to use it to help in a pandemic, but they allow it every other day. Tomorrow morning, Google could make a list of every person that walked into ZOH Spa and nobody is worried about that

This is not correct. If I am within 6 feet for 15 minutes on Monday, and I test positive on Wednesday, the person I was close to Monday will be notified.

Just to be clear, i don't think this app is malicious, trace personal data or something like that. I think it does what they want it to do and our data are safe.

Soooo, that said, i will not download it either way because I DON'T CARE. I am done with their covid insanity (leur delire covid). Ill leave it at that to not start an argument, i know some of you take that seriously and its alright if you do, you do you.

So, the application stores phone numbers of each person that was in proximity to you (6 ft, 15 min) for the last say 5 days. When you confirm that you are infected these numbers can be accessed by authorities or software sends messages automatically?

No it does not store phone numbers. It stores randomly generated unique codes that CANNOT be used to trace back to your phone.

Your phone has to check a few times a day if you were in touch with a code known to be infected. The system cannot "call you". Your phone has to check for you.

"It's quite simple. If I test positive, I register my diagnosis and everyone that was within say 6 feet for 15minutes, in the last X days, gets notified and therefore should go get tested. If I don't register my positive diagnosis, the system does nothing useful."

This is correct but does anyone know what "X days" is? Is it a week, is it a day? It can make a huge difference,

I use my phone under the impression that pretty much anything I'm doing on it will be tracked by big brother. If I'm seeing an escort, calling someone I shouldn't be, going somewhere I shouldn't go, I'm carrying a burner phone. I know that many use Venmo, credit cards, etc. for seeing escorts and other things but I would rather pay cash and move on as if whatever I have done never happened. That's just me and it's old school thinking. So even if the government or the app creator say that they aren't tracking you and there are unique codes etc. I'm still not going to download the app for concern over the fact that I trust nothing any government tells me.

Trust is earned and the government has done nothing to earn our trust, especially the Quebec government. I don't think they have been dishonest, but I do believe they have been incompetent in many ways. Especially with this 2nd wave. They do things by the seat of their pants

I do trust the guys that put together this app (Shopify). I can verify myself, through the open Source initiative if this is real and I believe it is. It is 0 cost to me and I don't even realize it's there. So if I can do a very small effort, why not ? I do this more out of respect for others. It's a very small effort.

BTW, I think as a society we need to learn to deal with pandemics because I don't think this is the last one we see.

Let's hope not, it took over a hundred years for the current one to come out of China. I have no interest living this pandemic life style ever again. But there is nothing wrong with having a real way to deal with it. Anything is better than what is being done now.

Look behind you.
^^^^ Using hindsight we should let it run its course, isolate the vulnerable and start to rebuild without restrictions.
Just a clip from a friend.

Please, don’t look back 5 years from now & have to admit that you spent an entire year of your life wearing a mask, cooped up in your house & avoiding all the people you love. A year in your life that you’ll never get back. And let me say this, I am not saying this virus isn’t real, or that there aren’t people that could really be affected. If you’re at risk, take precautions, absolutely. Every single day is a risk. Car accident, flu... our days were numbered before this. That has not changed. BUT, we should not be forced to live in fear. We went from being a free nation to being told we couldn’t go to school, couldn’t go to church, couldn’t go to our grandmas house, couldn’t pay respects to a loved one through a funeral.... and when we were allowed to do these things, we were told how long we could be there, how far apart we have to be, what to wear... Yes, our health matters. But you know what else matters? Family. Friends. Church. School dances. Football games. County fairs. Family vacations. Neighborhood BBQs. Life. One day, you’ll hug your grandma, mom, dad, brother for the last time. One day, your best friend will cry on your shoulder for the last time. One day, your son will play his last football game. One day, your daughter will wear her last prom dress. One day, they’ll have their last day of school. One day, you’ll spend your last day laughing with your Mama. One day, you’ll dance your last dance. Don’t waste the days you have by living in fear. Your time here on earth matters & God didn’t put us here to be afraid of everything He’s blessed us with. Live your life while you have the chance. God is gonna call you home when it’s your time. Virus or no virus.

For now, I have no plan to install this app.
I installed it. What's fkn stupid about the app...you have to voluntarily request a Key Code (one time) to be added if you've tested positive.
I wonder how many have actually added themselves because I've had it a week now and thankfully no Red Alert Exposure Status has come up.
I work in Essential Services with a crew Disinfecting with ULV and Anolyte technology Healrh Canada approved Disinfectants for Novel, Sars CoV2 Corona Virus and a host of others like H1N1, the list goes on.
If no one registers, its useless.
