Crowne Plaza had bad reviews but has been sold and been renovated sometime (?) around December of 2006 or January 2007.
It is now the Doubletree Plaza.

This week Priceline.com has added the new Doubletree Plaza to it's 3 star hotel list but more importantly it is now being rewarded via the "name your own price" bidding process when requesting a 3 star hotel.

This news makes the new Doubletree Plaza something we need to know more about. When searching "Crowne" I only find comments that elude to others saying bad things about the rooms, the staff and the location.

So as some of us start to get the new Doubtree via priceline bidding we should report back in this thread with what to expect, good or bad.

Right now I am mainly concerned with the location and would appreciate any insight into any issues that may be related to the location.

The location is actually very good, it is right beside the Berri-Uqam metro station, and my room just a few weeks ago had a pretty awesome view of the city under seige of the snow storm! I had a king-sized bed, which was very comfy (the deam beds they are famous for), however, I wouldn't stay there for the rooms, the air-conditioning/heating system is very loud and cranky. The fridge in the room had some old OJ in it and they tried to charge me to even use it! The internet sucked big time, but you could connect free downstairs in the business center if you liked. Don't get me started on the workout room and really, really, just forget about the pool! Breakfast - not so great. If I could get it on priceline for 50$US up to a max of 80$ - I wouldn't take a hissy fit... but more would piss me off.

I cannot tell you what upgrades they have done since I couldn't see any that were significant aside from new beds and 2 (not one - but two) clocks in the room?!

Novotel -and- Doubletree

These are the two hotels I have been awarded via priceline's bidding process.

Bad luck times two!

Hopefully the renovations have made a difference.

Double Tree

This hotel change brand almost as often as I trade my car.
It does not matter which brand it is, the service and the staff stay the same.
They suck.
There's much better alternative in Montreal such as Hotel de la Montagne and all the boutique hotels.

If this is the Doubletree on Sherbrooke the rooms are a pig sty. My sheets looked really old and had cigarette burns in them. The only reason I didn't complain is that I was only in my hotel room for a couple of hours and the staff was super nice. I've won the Doubletree again since I stayed there and didn't even bother showing up. That's how bad it is IMO.

This hotel has had a bad reputation for many years. Same owners and same Union. Both fighting all the time and the poor client is stucked in the middle.
There are so many new hotels in Montreal that one can get a great deal most of the times.

Check the new Embassy Suite, just across from the Congress Centre in the Old Montreal.

I had been given this hotel twice using PL over the last few months. Because of this, I will no longer bid on a 3 star in Montreal. This should be at the low end of 2 stars and does not belong in the same catagory as the Hyatt. Even the Holiday Inn in ChinaTown is a step up from this dump.

Squeaky wheel gets the oil!

I agree with the previous posters regarding the state of the Doubletree, it's awful! I highly suggest whoever stays there send PL an email detailing the decrepid state of this hotel. If they get enough complaints they'll move it out of the 3* category. They also will usually give you a small discount on a future hotel bid. Worth the few minutes to bash this shithole and get something out of your aggravating stay.

Renovated??

It is funny, had the chance to visit the Hotel last Friday.

And I am shocked to find out that the rooms were renovated.

If there are, the room I visited last week was not.
That is for sure.

Maybe just some of the rooms were like the up grades, or something.

Where I belong.
My favorite hotel in Montreal. The rooms are just fine, the beds comfortable.

The pluses:
1. Location, location, location. On the edge of the Plateau, you're right near the best restaurants in town, just blocks from Parc LaFontaine.

2. Free high speed internet.

3. Plenty of free parking on the neighborhoods streets.

Maybe we should all send them a link to this thread when we do our feedback. :)

I had a very nice room with a hot tub at the Chateau l'Argoat right across the street from the Crowne Plaza once. I didn't think the location was so bad. It was bit out of the way from the center of things, but not too far. If I got this hotel on Priceline I could deal with it well enough. It isn't far from my favorite watering hole at all.

Hmmm,

What drives me nuts about this hotel is that it is on a very small footprint and you can't walk 5 feet straight in any direction without hitting a wall or something.

Merbites.....
I must say one thing...everything bad people have said about the Crowne Plaza is TRUE! What a crappy place! The front desk staff, including the managers, are arrogant and pertentious! They had king rooms available but said that because I had booked on Priceline that the room type was not gauranteed....wow, what assholes! The bathrooms are old, dirty and barely big enough to take a crap in...I wiped blood from the door near the nadle as I took a dump....ewwwww The beds were ok...not sure if they were two doubles though because they seemed tiny! Maybe I am just a big dude? Nah! Lobby is misleading because it is nice with the flat panel tv's but the rooms have average tv....nothing special about the rooms! Hmmmm.... I didin't even look at the pool because the rooms turned me off so much! It is out of the way in the sketchy Latin Quarter of Montreal...kinda sucks! Not even for $40 a nite would I stay again...I paif approx $63 via Priceline inc all taxes last weekend. Oh well, you win some and lose some but with the Crowne Plaza, YOU LOSE!
