It seems like it is a good moneymaking plan is to work as an escort and then write a book or blog about the experience:

http://entertainment.timesonline.co.uk/tol/arts_and_entertainment/books/article6917495.ece

These books seem to sell and the publishers seem to want them. And then when the books sell, the author decides to capitalize further by "outing" herself.

I guess if you have literary sensibilities there could be some money to be made.

How about that for a change?

What I would like to see now is a group of clients outing themself for once. Still only SP doing it. Maybe you should try it and you will get rich!
In the views of people who fight against prostitution and of many women, clients are perceived as rapists, abusers, chauvinists and misogynist pigs. If some of you had the courage to get out of the closet, maybe it would improve the cause of those courageous sex workers who are out fighting for for all of us. It itakes 2 to Tango doesn't it?

Maybe Elliot Spitzer can write the first bestseller.

Spitzer potentially could have, but the problem is that he reportedly did not treat most of the escorts he saw very well. Therefore, he would likely have credibility issues, assuming he wanted to and needed the money (which he doesn't, since his family is one of the richest in NYC and he is probably making more money now than when he was Governor).

Hello Lou,

You forgot lonely losers, bored husbands, Hefner wannabes, jaded nice guys, damaged divorcees, savior wannabes, collegiate adolescents, desperate geriatrics, escort addicts, and mods (a unique and inexplicable class unto itself) lol. Anyway, put me down as that "jaded" type. But, I guarantee you my book will hit the shelves before Stripperlover's expose arrives. ;)

Kisses,

Merlot

Interesting perspective. Having hung out with a couple of SPs for the better part of three years now, the anecdotal evidence says that while not all of us are "rapists, abusers, chauvinists and misogynist pigs" there sure are a lot of them among the general client base and on this board. I've heard enough stories of abuse by clients to believe it to be true, and common.

Thanks for the invitation Special K but it wont be possible for me. I do hope you all have a great time tho!

As for the out Biologist ex SP, I doubt this woman will turn into a media circus and that she will suffer from to much exposure. She will have to deal with negative reactions around her for sure but sex work is legal in England and she seems like someone strong who does not have as much personnal problems and issues as others we know of. Plenty of sex workers are public figures and they don't kill themself or fell into deep depression. Mental hillness and suicide are far more complex then that.

Finally, about clients and coming out, if ever it is of any interest to you, I just started a new thread on a BC initiative regarding that specific topic.

A desirable book to read but the main problem may well be in its authenticity. The author, the agent, the nature of the demand calls for exacerbating the stereotype of call girl life, reinforcing bourgeoisie half truths in order to make the book sell. I remember the memorirs of the Geisha book and its california based author relied on every stereotype he could think of in order to make the book a success. So I would read this Diary of a call girl with a grain of salt as well.

Gotsome,

I would agree with your point to some extent. However, I read the book "Memoirs of Geisha" and it was a fantastic book both in terms of prose and storytelling. If you recall correctly in the book, things change for the main character, and her life turns around, when one of her clients.engages in an act of pure kindness which absolutely stuns and shocks her. It serves to reinforce in her that there is good in people and that someone actually does care about her. I did not think that plot twist was stereotypical, and it certainly does not fit with any of the stereotypes mentioned by Lou Simone in her posts above.

Lou, you should consider "outing" yourself in a limited fashion and attending one of the GTs so you can put some of your assertions to a real life test.

I have outed myself in a far less limited fashion than a GT in which people out themself between others who share the same work and hobby. Trust me, I know what being "out" means.

Don't misunderstand me tho, i have nothing against GT and I have assisted plenty of SP only gaterings. That said, I don't believe a GT is a place where people "come out of the closet". In my opinion, it is a social gatering that as mainly 3 goals: exchange "live" between board members (sex workers with other sex workers, clients between clients and sp and clients), fun and of course, marketing.

The stereotypes mentionned in my post are not my belief, they are the ones used by opponents of the decriminalisation of prostitution all over the world. I have heard them for years in the media, in school, around me, in books, studies, and I am tired of it...

Everytime a hooker goes public, what she says is always "taken with a grain of salt" unless it is a sad story that makes people cry. If the SP story is positive, she is not representative, she lies, or is perceived as alienated by men... This is why I believe that it is time for men who frequent SP to get out of the closet. You outnumber us by far, your experience are various, it would be a fascinating change to have some of you out, I would buy the book for sure.
