Exchange Rate

As an American, this is a big factor in my trips over the border,

Right now we are at $1.29:1
About 12+ months ago were were $1.59:1

I was wondering if anyone had an educated opinion of where we might be heading from here.

I can tell you that the canadian dollar is expect to reach the 80 cents before end of 2003 and in 2004 it can goes up to 90 cents that would mean an exchange rate of about 1.12:1

Canadian economy is a lot stronger than US economy actually we dont have a warrior as prime minister we have an intelligent man and we will get a real economist on dec 12 2003

not including ch's apparent bias, yes it is general consensus the exchange rate will tighten. Over 80 c/1d in the next few months would not suprise me. I HOPE it never reaches 90c/1d. ouch!

Canuck Dollar Rising

I've been a strong believer in the saying 'History Tailgates', meaning that history always tends to repeat itself. Twenty five to thirty years ago, the Canadian dollar was higher than the American dollar. I think that it is quite probable that within two years, the same thing might happen.

I guess all of this depends on what happens south of the border. How long will the US remain in Iraq? How long will Bush and his boys remain in power? So many questions with still no answers will determine the future of our economies, not only the USA's, but Canada's also. Right now, the Iraq situation is destroying the US economy. I don't see their dollar improving as long as the present situation persists.

It is true that the oncoming Prime Minister is a financial genius, not only in my opinion, but in the opinion of many Canadians-in-the-know. When the present Liberal party came into power, Paul Martin was its Finance Minister and turned the economy around. A month or two from now, he will be Canada's next Prime Minister as soon as Jean Chretien retires.

As a tremendous sports fan, this rising dollar is great news to our sports teams. However, it's a killer for our exports.

I am down south and I go to Mexico for business and pleasure (actually mostly pleasure), and the exchange rate is kickin'. Crackin' 11 for 1 the last time I was there.

I've been doing research and I think I see why there might be a recession in the Montreal sex trade...it kind of doesn't make sense anymore to go to Montreal, egad, especially with the conversion rate. For those of us down south, it costs about 350 to fly into Montreal (or in my case, fly to NJ/NY/PA to meet friends and drive up). For this price you can get a flight to Germany and Amsterdam for 350-400, and the FKK clubs in Germany have literal Playboy quality women available (so says my research, not my first hand experience). Also the going price is about 30 Euro for a super hottie at one of those clubs (so about half the price of a Asservissante or LFMJ type agency, but with girls that blow away HDH girls in the looks department).

I'm booking a post Xmas flight with a couple of buddies to Germany/Austria. I can't wait.

I did my reasearch mainly on Ultimate Male Vacation, Worldsexguide, and other yahoo groups. If anyone thinks I am wrong or unjustfiably enthusiastic, I'd appreciate some input.

It might or might not be a coincidence, but before my first trip to Montreal, I did a lot of research and found lots of reports from people who flew in to Montreal. Nowadays, I see almost zero reports of people flying into Montreal.

The post-exchange costs for us Americans has certainly made it less desirable to travel up North. For me, if I was going to make a weekend out of it.

For example

Last Year
1.6:1
Gas = $50 USD
Hotels $100/night - 3 nights - $300 CAD
Food $60-70 * 3 = $200 CAD
Girls 3/4 hours * $140 (Martin we'll say) = $560 CAD
So about $700 USD total

Next year @ 1.3:1
Gas same
Hotels same
Food same
Girls @ 160/hr
about $925 USD

So it's a 30+% increase for the same product (tough to swallow)

The exchange rate is looking pretty favorable, for us south of the border........will it get better over the summer

Winter has always been the worse time of the year to travel to Mtl. There are many reasons for this, and i will only name a few:
1) coldest weather of the year in Mtl; because of this, people who tend to live in warmer climates find Mtl's weather unbearable.
2) winter in Mtl, as compared to summer, can be very depressing; it's like night and day, in terms of its attractions and lifestyle.
3) people who hate hockey won't enjoy Mtl during the winter as much as during the summer, since during the winter months, it's hockey, hockey, hockey; you'd think hockey is a religion....actually, in its own way, it is!
4) unreliable weather conditions; you never know when you'll get caught in a snow storm if you're driving, or if you'll get your flight cancelled due to bad weather. Several years ago, my outgoing flight got delayed for 2 days.....now that i think of it, that wasn't so bad after all!
5) Most of the better festivals are held during the summer months, including the F1 Grand Prix.
6) Finally, the sightseeing which involves appreciating the parade of scantilly-clad beauties walking along the street, whether it'd be on Crescent, St-Laurent, Ste-Catherine or Old Mtl, is one of our favorite pastimes during the warmer months.

Chinatown exchange place today gives 1.35 - and that is a so-so rate. That is a street rate.

Real rate today is 1.39 and change (according to XE.com). For street pricing, 1.35 wasn't bad.

Bigger ripoffs in bars and such, some who will give you 10% (wow)...

I'm no economist, but a factor is if US interest rates go up faster, that will strengthen the dollar.
You know whats funny? I live less than an half hours drive from one of the few legal brothels in the USA and even with airfare/ hotel included, my last trip to Montreal (in March) was a better value for me than to patronize a Nevada establishment. I base that on the price of one hotel night although I stayed longer and buying my airline ticket in advance. Nevada Brothels are pricing themselves out of the game. Whereas in Canada with your intellegent civilized attitudes the SPs don't keep the fun out of reach of the working man. And for that they will prosper.

BTW, I want to buy a home near the river near Ibreville, one of those riverfront homes. It would be a good vacation place, with awesome fishing and a hobby center. Can anyone start pointing me in the direction of a real estate agency in that area that might be in the know? How much do those riverfront homes cost?

Why? Is there something about the area that I do not know about. I am not a native Montrealer...Is this a ghetto area? I just wanna be near a river to fish and have a place to call for outcall. But I am dead serious. I've been making some really good money and would like to buy my first vacation house.

I would drive by it all the time. Just to make sure we are talking about the same area, it is the series of homes and and the river you would see if you drove from the GP to Bar Erotica. Last winter, I remember seeing that the river was crystal clear and that there was ice running down (or up) the river) and I thought to myself, "maybe it would be cool to buy one of these homes". I am a big fan of fishing and the river lured me in.

If that really is a bad area, then thanks for letting me know. I would love to have some sort of waterfront Montreal home. Doesn't have to be fancy or high end, just something outdoorsy but that wouldn't scare away any of the girls.
