I don't doubt that Apple has nice, innovative stuff, like the iPhone. And I like the form factor on their laptops. But all that costs extra money, and Apple stuff costs quite a bit more.
For me personally, I can satisfy my needs with cheaper stuff. For example, a $40 Creative Labs Zen Stone fulfills my MP3 needs just fine, as opposed to an iPod Shuffle for $80. And for Apple laptops, I would still have nagging concerns about compatibility.
The high cost of Apple products combined with compatibility concerns makes me a browser, not a buyer. I would guess that an Apple store makes most of its sales off iPod and iPhone, with primarily die hard fans buying the computers.
