He came to Montreal in June 2000 to attend the F1 GP and he also attended Cirque du Soleil founder Guy Laliberté's famous post-race party on Sunday night of F1 weekend (I wasn't invited  ). That night Harrison first proposed the idea for a Cirque production based on Beatles songs and the show ....

I think Bono was at the party that night also. I read an interview with gorgeous singer "Ima" (real name is Marie-Andree Bergeron) in a french tabloid last summer & she talked about being there that evening & being approached & quizzed by Bono. She also remembered going for a walk & bumping into an older man who seemed intrigued by Laliberte's garden. When she asked him who he was, he simply told her "oh, i'm just a guitar player." A few years later, she realized she had spoken with none other than George Harrison. For those who've never heard of "Ima", here she is:

What or whom do you actually like?

Irma Thomas, Fats Domino, John Fogerty, Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen, Nils Lofgren, Tina Turner, Neil Young, Leonard Cohen, Billy Bragg, Robyn Hitchcock, Lucinda Williams, Joan Jett, Prince, Diana Krall...to name some of the living ones. (NOT St. Bono, NOT Sting, NOT McCartney, NOT Celine, NOT Michael Jackson, NOT Elvis Costello).

Must confess, JC, that given the impeccable taste (other than Diana Ugh Krall) that your list reveals, that I'm surprised by your inclusion of Elvis Costello on your not list. You ought to revisit him, particularly his recent collaboration with Allen Toussaint, The River in Reverse.

And where's Wilco? I assume you've heard their collaborations with Billy Bragg, whose show at Club Soda last year was one of my year's highlights.

Yeah, the Wilco/Bragg Guthriefests were great. As for Elvis C., I've never forgiven him for dissing Ray Charles in 79. I admit, though, that Allen Toussaint works magic with anyone.

How did he diss Ray Charles? I'm unfamiliar with that?

Personally, I've never forgiven Ray Charles for giving a 45 minute concert about 20 years ago. I don't recall what I paid, but I do remember that the tickets were as pricey as any I'd ever purchased.

Costello was talking with Bonnie Bramlett (and probably some other people but I don't remember who) late one night in 79 and the subject of RC came up. Costello sneered, "Ray Charles? He's just a blind ignorant #$@%&*" Bonnie Bramlett discussed the incident in the press (again, I don't remember the details but I think it was in Rolling Stone) and was enraged at the racism and utter lack of respect.
