Go Fund Me : Did you ever used it, did you ever donated to it?

Hi all,

If you are unaware of what is Go Fund Me, it is pretty much a website in the vein of Kickstarter but instead of backing a project (like a video game, a movie, or such) you just decide to donate to a person. The funding may be from anything, can be to fund a project like Kickstarter, but it can also be for paying hospital bills or helping somebody that have trouble financially for any reason.

The major difference between Kickstarter and GoFundMe is that if a kickstarter project fail (objective of donations not achieve) then the project is cancelled and the money never reach the project founder. GoFundMe on the other hand will take a % of every donation but the rest is going in your pockets and you can withdraw at any time. At least from what i picked reading the website.

So my question would be, what do you think of such sites? Would you donate for a certain cause? Do you find it ridiculous to "beg for money" ?

I have been browsing the site this morning and find all sorts of different "cause" from raising funds for a new wheelchair for his mother to raising fund to be able to travel meet her lover. Seem to be really mixed up.

And yes if you are wondering, i am thinking of making one for myself. Thats why i am curious about the popularity of such type of fund raising here.

Have used Kickstarter recently, still waiting on the projects to deliver.

Never used GoFundMe, have seen it multiple times linked to articles, videos, social media posts of unfortunate events happening to people. I have a difficult time deciding which one I should put my money towards that deserve it more than others.

I find Patreon a lot more meaningful and that would come from the same set of funds. I also prefer larger amounts to a few causes rather than small amounts to many different causes.

I have heard of GoFundMe but never looked into it, the only place I donate to is the Salavation Army and the odd group that trolls the pubs to assist some family. Perhaps I can open a gofundme account claiming I want to see 5 escorts a day for a month to live my dream before I die ( Of old age ).

Lol i wish but i doubt any peoples would donate to this...

I decided to make one, i don't think this will get me any result but you never know(if there is any charitable souls here let me know privatly... lol) , its free to make a project anyway. Its not for hobbying but rather for a trip to a convention. I would probably not be allowed to post the link because it would be seen as publicity.
