If you want to hear exciting guitar listen to anything Ritchie Blackmore recorded with Deep Purple or Rainbow. Hard rock merged with blues and classical influences. Nobody sounds like Blackmore.

Just to clarify something from EagerBeaver ´s post: Jeff Beck did play on the original version of "Heart Full Of Soul" by the Yardbirds in 1965 just after replacing Eric Clapton. The Jimmy Page clip comes from around 1968 after Beck left and the band was about to evolve into Led Zeppelin. And yes it´s a great solo. Beck bent the notes heavily so that his guitar would sound more like an Indian sitar.

Totally agree STN. He played on the first two Ozzy albums and was amazing. Listen to the solo on SATO from the Diary album: unbelievable! Tragically died way too young.
