For some reason, I decided to get back into an old hobby - the guitar. It's been a while that I've had the urge to start playing again, probably started by walking past pawn shops and seeing guitars for sale in the window. And between work and home I've been spending way too much time in front of a computer screen. I'm still spending time on forums, but now they're guitar forums instead of this one for the most part. So I picked up an Epi Les Paul and a Peavey Vypyr amp and for the last week or so I've been making my fingers bleed getting them back into shape (and my neighbours' ears bleed too, probably:p).

So it got me wondering if anyone else here had other hobbies that they enjoy spending time on. I find it relaxing and challenging basically learning how to play again after 30 years not so much as touching a guitar.

Anyone have any other hobby ideas?

Interesting question..
I for one, have many hobbies.. To share a few...
-) watch collecting .. I've always had an obsession with old vintage, and modern time pieces..
Especially going into old markets, and flea markets..! I've already bought a 1959 omega globemaster in solid gold for 3$, lol......oh and a solid gold pocket watch for 10$.

-) same thing with old comic books and baseball cards...
-) this might be a surprise, but I'm an artistic painter.. I've been painting for 16 years.
-) self taught piano player.. When there's nothing else to do.. It's great for passing time.
-) cooking...I've taken 2 courses on my free time, and I have to admit I'm pretty good...
They say the way to a mans heart is through his stomach.., but what they forgot to add,
was that the fastest way to 'between a girls legs, is a gourmet home cooked meal'!!!!

-) .. I almost forgot .. Photography--/ mainly girls ( models, sp's amateur or pro)
but also nice scenery,landscapes..,scenes of life.. Etc...
This hobbie is my newest discovery on my list of things that I become infatuated with.

Hello Techman,

Yes, good topic.

Just a few:

I did some art illustration in various mediums for a while, eventually leading into photography and freelance work for which I had my own B&W darkroom for many years.

For about 4 or 5 years I collected sports memorabilia, largely going to baseball autograph shows and met many HOF players. My Ted Williams is now worth 30 to 40 times what I paid.

As you know I trained in Kempo for about 18 months together with a regular moderate workout regimen. Still, have a few souvenir scars. Would like to start it again.

Hey Ricky Bonds, please forward your most effective recipes. <Huge Winky Smilie>

Cheers,

Merlot

Just about every pawn shop I've seen has guitars in it. The one that caught my eye is almost across from Wok Cafe where I have lunch a few times a month. Beware of the prices though, you can usually get a better price on a used guitar in a good music shop. I saw a cherry burst Les Paul in the place I mentioned but it was a 2003 and was quite beat up and they wanted $400 for it. So I checked on kijiji and found a mint condition 2008 Ebony Les Paul with a hard case for only $275! I went to check it out and bought it on the spot. I got lucky because the ad had been up for 7 minutes when I saw it. If you're interested in buying either a Gibson or Epiphone Les Paul, be very careful with places like ebay and other on-line sites because there's a huge market in fake Les Paul guitars. If you don't know what to look for, you could really get burned.

Interesting question..

I agree with cooking. I love to cook but living alone I can't be bothered to take the time to do a great meal most of the time. Cooking for a lady is always a pleasure though!

As for training, well basically I spend many years keeping in shape by training in martial arts. Now at my age, I feel I've earned the right to take it easy.
