Newest player inductees:

Joe Sakic - great all-around player and quiet but effective leader - a slightly less talented Steve Yzerman (not a dig - to be only slightly less talented than Stevie Y means that you are a great, great player!)

Pavel Bure - electrifying player and one of the ten best pure goal scorers of all time

Adam Oates - clever player, one of the five best set-up men ever

Mats Sundin - nice guy who never reached his full potential because most of his career was wasted surrounded by a cast of sub-marginal talents on an incredibly bad hockey team. Daniel Alfredsson pointed this out very well in his speech praising Mats. note that Mats scored 114 points one season with the Nordiques but never approached that again - even though he personally improved as a player! (If you sleep with pigs you wake up smelling like bacon.) Poor Mats.

Best Nordique ever. Better than Peter Stastny, Forsberg, and Goulet. Scored 102 points on a team that won only 12 of 80 games in 89-90 then 109 points the next year when the team won only 16 of 80. I believe he is still the only player to achieve +100 pts on a sub 500 team. He played most of his career on weaker teams than Yzerman and was IMO even better than him.

Pavel Bure - electrifying player and one of the ten best pure goal scorers of all time.

Agreed.

Adam Oates - clever player, one of the five best set-up men ever.

Agreed

Not sure he belongs in the Hall, certainly not in his first year of eligibility. Very selfish player who couldn't wait to go back to Sweden within hours of his teams' elimination. Poor leader who never won anything in the NHL. Barely averaged a career point per game.

My favorite memory of Mats comes at the 52 second mark of this clip. You can tell he really cares about the game.

I didn't even know about the HOF inductions until now. Was the ceremony shown on tv yesterday? I thought the NHL might have postponed the event until NHL hockey resumed since most people probably don't even care right now since the season will likely be cancelled once again.

Agreed - certainly not in his first year of eligibility, although possibly later.

Players that I think have been neglected by the HOF so far include Brendan Shanahan, Steve Larmer, Rick Middleton, Peter Mahovlich, Charlie Simmer, and possibly Esa Tikkanen.

Players that I think were put in too soon or maybe shouldn't have been put in at all include Sundin, Bernie Federko, Rod Langway, and possibly Steve Shutt and Clark Gillies.

Players that I hope never make it: Tom Barrasso and Curtis Joseph.
