For all of those hobbiest out there who live outside of 300 miles of Montreal who normally fly to Montreal to hobby, how much is your airfare to Montreal?

Total fare

So that we can compare apples to apples, let's report the total cost for a return ticket, including taxes and surcharges.

Flying to Mtl is still a bit too high for me these days. The best thing to do is to do what i do & wait for good deals on flight passes. When i don't fly on flight passes, i'll fly using some of my aeroplan points.

There are some good deals through Westjet, but most of the time, you fly out at crazy times like 6am or very late in the evening.

Im guessing your talking about Air Canada's deals? If so I think they are only good in Canada.

I set up alerts with Kayak and try to travel to Montreal when I get a cheap flight. If I already have something planned like Jazz Fest or something its sometimes worth it to drive all the way from NYC.

continental has flight deals that leave newark new jersey on select saturdays, when there is low demand ... like this weekend for example, and return on monday or tuesday for $180 round trip.

sign up at their web site for their email notices that come on tuesday mornings prior to the weekend.

The AC flight pass never made sense to me.

It's ~$4K for 10 flights (5 RT) between eastern US and eastern Canada.

$4K/5 = $800!

Maybe a flight pass would help with last-minute travel, but even then, last-minute East Coast fares aren't so bad if you pick a popular, well-traveled route.

It depends on the time of the year, but most of the time fares are 350+. Flights to Toronto are half as much usually, but the SPs and hotels are more $$ in yyz.

With all the airport hassle and heavy baggage charges, I have resorted to driving the 1200 miles (one way) for my annual 3 week vacation to paradise.

Business travel has been curtailed, so my only visits are personal time now.

NYC to YUL

These are all round trip 2 week advance purchase from NYC to YUL:
From 2000 to March 2005: less than $150 from Priceline
August 2006: around $270
Feb 2007 and March 2008: around $350. In September of 2007, I paid less to go to Costa Rica.

I just checked expedia.com and it's around $270 again.... with/without 2 week advance purchase!

Are you north of new york city? If so with the wait at the airport its almost quicker to drive the 350 miles than it would be to fly. Rates to Burlington from JFK is 120 roundtrip...what is the extra $150 bucks in your price to Montreal? I found roundtrip from newark to dublin for 294. For an extra 24 bucks you could be in Europe.
