Russian food is not much different than something you can get anywhere in Europe or even in North America for that matter.
They have similar dishes even vodka Isn’t a big deal, Polish vodka to me tasted just as good.
I have been to Russia many times and I didn’t find Russian food to be that unique or anything to write home about to be honest.
The best restaurant I found there was serving mostly Hungarian and Czech dishes far better than the local Russian dishes in Moscow.

The women in Moscow on the other hand are something to write home about. Absolutely gorgeous.

They even have those Lean Pocket things you put in the microwave and watch them get bigger through the glass microwave door. I get French kids don’t get to do that like Americans, Canadians and Russians, with their fine cuisine.

Are the servers in actual Russia rude, like they are in Brighton Beach, New York, and other Russian areas of the U.S.?
I don't know myself but I will give my restaurant review later today! Lol

Apparently this restaurant I'm going to, has traditional live Russian music with a stage! Lol

Some are actually rude and some just have this bland expression on their face as if they can’t wait for their day to be over.
Same thing at the airport in Moscow, while flight attendants on domestic flight are polite and friendly as soon as you step off the plane into the terminal you are met with the same bland faces and expressions and they make you feel like you are an annoying insect to be swatted away. Communism has definitely left its mark.
It is only now that in the rest of the former iron curtain countries that hospitality staff are actually smiling again as now their jobs are no longer guaranteed by the government.

Tried Russian food once with a Russian colleague from work...it's good eating. And of course, good drinking ;)

Needless to say, one of my favorite strippers back in the day was Russian. She worked at Kingdom lol

I think today its more the omnipresent corruption that leave them with bitterness.
That part hasn’t changed lol, probably you have never lived under communism, there was certainly no lack of corruption.
I think even your mother expected a bribe to cook you a meal.

I meant maybe they expected it to disappear with the fall of communism. That being said, corruption is also a major part of capitalism.

Ya I just came from the Russian restaurant.

I ordered the borsch and beef stroganoff.
I also had some vodka.

My only issue with the restaurant was the server wasn't Russian. She was Quebecoise...I was hoping to get served by a Russian dude or woman who spoke English with a heavy accent and limited English... the full Russian experience, you know lol

Plus there was supposed to be live Russian music! But there was none and I was the only one in the restaurant!

I remember going to a Russian restaurant in Brighton Beach once and I mentioned to my much more Russian experienced dinner guest that I thought the waiter was rude. She said no that's "Russian friendly." I chickened out on ordering and stuck with the beef stroganoff. Too many of the dishes had strange combinations of cabbage, onions, and mayonnaise for my western taste.
But Brighton Beach does have a wide selection of Eastern European cuisine with Russian, Ukrainian, and Georgian restaurants. (NYC is the largest Russian speaking city in the West - 600K who speak Russian.)

Ha funny you mention "Russian friendly". I used to get mad at my gf for being "rude" until i learned all about that Russian friendly stuff. Yes they appear to be cold and abrupt at times.. But they mean well.. lol.

The last part of your post gave me the giggles mate lol ... just curious when you say you were the only one at the restaurant , you mean just you and your date right ? ... anyways not making fun because the pandemic has been hard on everyone and especially struggling restaurants , it’s just that one would expect more people on a Saturday
