The Festival International de Jazz de Montreal is now in full swing.

I'm sure that among the hobbyists there are true jazz aficionadoes. I am one of them.

What is your favorite jazz composition that you like to play as background music when you're making love?

My favorite one is Herbie Hancock's Dolphin Dance from the Maiden Voyage album.

I also like to play A Love Supreme by John Coltrane.

I don't for what reason, but I played once Archie Shepp's Mama too Tight and it didn't work well with my date!!!!!

You pick up the wrong train

Train,

I think that he was referring to Trane (Coltrane) and not to you. :)

Jazz and Sex hum..

I agree with Protagoras, John Coltrane is great music mixed with genius and funk and originality.

But for a sexy carnal session i have to agree with Hobnobber, good old Miles Davis is sublime, and genius and sensual and epicurean in the most sophisticated way ever.

I also love pell me a grape with Diana Krall, which is sooo sexy !

Let's never forget Marvin Gay a genius when he so brilhantly described inner city urbain black pain in his music which is classics today.

And of course Al Jearreau which has the most beautiful voice ever, full of swing.

I would say Barry White is great sex music, with his grandiose voice.

Viva Black America and its music greatness !!!!!!!!

my english and sexness in bossa nova music...

Dear Board Stiff, thank you so much for correcting my english error. I just love improoving my english skills !!!!!! I hope one day you will write just as well as i do in english, in my mother tongue which is portuguese.

Dear Rexroth, the question in this thread is about jazz and sex. Answering your question i would say that Baden Powel is instrumental music which can be sexy, depending on your definition of what is sensuality in music may be. Moreover Vinicios de Morais is more a literary genre, meaning if you dont understand the lyrics it is very dificulty to enjoy his music as far as sexy music is concern. Vinicious de Morais was a diplomate and an intellectual therefore his music reflects his educational background. Bossa Nova can be sexy and romantic but not Baden Powel and Vinicious de Morais. In fact there is one version of eu sei que vou te amar, with Caetano Veloso which is very sexy and romantic, but Caetano Veloso is genius in his interpretations.

But then again who am i to question Rexroth idea of sexy music ? If Baden Powel instrumental music works for you, then go right ahead.

One of the wickest quintest Miles ever assembled and they were all wicked quintets! Miles at the Plugged Nickel 1965. May not be the best for sex but for sheer artistry, Wow!

Wow! I agree with you Hobknobber. Miles at the Plugged Nickel 1965, recorded in Chicago (and for a long time available only in (costly) Japanese importation, was one of his finest record.

Speaking of Miles quintet I've just finished to read a book written by the Danish bassist Peter Vuust. Vuust analyzes the polyrhythmic structures of this famous quintent in the 60's (1963-1968) (Tony Williams, Ron Carter, Miles, Herbie Hancock, Wayne Shorter) It' s amazing how they were playing together in and with time.
