Kateri Tekakwitha

I’ve been reading a bit on Kateri Tekakwitha who is being canonized.

Like all proper women she had a vow of chastity, but supplemented with wholesome activities such as “prolonged fasting, flogging, cutting, sleeping on a bed of thorns, and burning herself with hot coals”.

I am a bit puzzled why devout people consider this admirable, but will say a woman is crazy to have sex with strangers. Those nice ladies who bring comfort and answer all our prayers are more worthy of worship in my opinion. I’ve seen some of them perform pretty amazing miracles too!

Why? All I'm saying is making people happy while you're alive is just as good as flogging yourself to death so that you can cure impetigo or whatever.

just about any SP that's been in the biz for +7 years deserves that honor.
