Actor Michael Douglas believes oral sex gave him throat cancer.

The Oscar winner was diagnosed three years ago but fought the disease and is now working towards a full recovery.

He tells Britain's The Guardian newspaper he initially thought the stress of his son Cameron's incarceration brought on his cancer, but he has since learned he may have contracted it from cunnilingus.

Douglas, who has persistently battled claims he was a sex addict long before he wed Catherine Zeta-Jones, says, "Without wanting to get too specific, this particular cancer is caused by HPV (human papillomavirus), which actually comes about from cunnilingus.

"I did worry if the stress caused by my son's incarceration didn't help trigger it. But yeah, it's a sexually transmitted disease that causes cancer. And if you have it, cunnilingus is also the best cure for it."

Cancer experts believe HPV, a sexually transmitted virus which causes cervical and anal cancer, is a contributing factor in the rise of throat cancer.

Oral sex cause of his throat cancer, says Douglas

HPV, as far as I knew, is caused from skin to skin contact. So how can he get throat cancer unless he performed oral sex on a man?

I could see a man getting HPV and then getting either mouth cancer or cancer on the tongue, but how could a man get throat cancer performing oral sex on a woman. There are no parts on a woman that touches a man's throat. I have never heard of HPV being transferred through vaginal fluids, but I just read it can be:

Uh, little buddy.....a woman's pussy IS also made out of skin. What do you think it's made of? Wood? Glass? Plastic? Steel?

Yes, but your lips and tongue are making the contact with the woman's pussy. How does the throat get involved? Your throat is beyond your mouth. At least mine is.

The tongue & likely saliva can transmit the bacteria to the throat.

By the way, anyone out there ever have a sore throat lasting several days following daty? Fever & chills?? I've been told by more than one hobbyist of experiencing such symptoms in the past.

p.s. There's no f$&# way i'm doing daty if i'm not the first client or even suspect i may not be.

HPV = Human Papillomavirus is a virus as the name suggests it is. No bacteria is involved with HPV. Syphilis and gonorrhea are caused by a specific type of bacteria.

I have always read and have been told by a couple of dermatologists who I know that HPV is passed through the contact of the skin, or warts on the skin. HPV causes warts. Warts which reside in the genital area of men and women are genital warts. More than 100 different strains of HPV exist and certain strains are more likely to be passed in the genital area. Unless large enough to be visible, the HPV or warts can not be seen without magnification. Warts on a person's fingers are caused by HPV, but these warts are not the same strains that are found in the genital area.

Different strains are either high risk or low risk for cancer. Strains 16 and 18, for example, are high risk strains.

So if the HPV is in the fluid of a female, then I can see it being transmitted to a male's throat. Here's another link (Mouth Cancer Foundation) saying that oral sex can be a risk for getting HPV and mouth cancer.

Michael Douglas did not blame oral sex for throat cancer, says rep

The 68-year-old Douglas has been free of cancer for more than two years after receiving extensive chemotherapy and has returned to acting.

LONDON—A representative for actor Michael Douglas now says the actor doesn't blame his throat cancer on oral sex.

The Guardian newspaper published an interview Monday saying that Douglas attributed his illness to the HPV virus from oral sex. When asked about his cancer, Douglas said “without wanting to get too specific, this particular cancer is caused by HPV (human papillomavirus), which actually comes from cunnilingus.”

But spokesman Allen Burry said later that Douglas never said that was the cause of his cancer. He said Douglas was discussing what causes oral cancer during the interview.

The 68-year-old Douglas has been free of cancer for more than two years after receiving extensive chemotherapy and has returned to acting.

Douglas has starred in many movies, including “Basic Instinct” and “Fatal Attraction.” He is currently appearing in an acclaimed biopic about Liberace.

He told the newspaper his cancer had been caused by having contracted the human papillomavirus (HPV), which he said led to cancer.
“It’s a sexually transmitted disease,” Douglas said of the virus.

Dr. Michael Brady, who specializes in sexual health as medical director of the Terrence Higgins Trust, told The Associated Press that oral sex could have contributed to Douglas’s cancer but that it was difficult to pinpoint a single cause.

He pointed out that Douglas had been a smoker and a drinker, two factors that he said are the most common causes of oral cancer.
“There are often a number of factors, genetic, environmental, viral, that could be playing a role,” he said.

Brady said there are hundreds of different types of HPV virus and that in most cases it does not cause damage. The risk is so low, he said, that he does not believe people should worry or change their sexual practices.

Douglas is married to the actress Catherine Zeta-Jones.

Michael Douglas helps Montreal hospital that detected his cancer

As a thank you, the 66-year-old actor, who owns a vacation home in the Mont-Tremblant area, personally offered his star power to the hospital.

by Andy Blatchford, CP

MONTREAL—Michael Douglas’s battle with throat cancer began in Canada — and now the Oscar-winning actor is giving back to the Montreal hospital that detected a disease others had missed.

An appreciative Douglas, star of Hollywood films such as “Basic Instinct” and “Wall Street,” volunteered to headline a posh fundraiser next month for McGill University’s head and neck cancer fund.

Last year, Douglas underwent radiation and chemotherapy treatments in the United States for a walnut-sized tumour he now says is gone.
But the cancer diagnosis first came from the McGill-affiliated Jewish General Hospital — only weeks after several physicians elsewhere had given him a clean bill of health.

As a thank you, the 66-year-old actor, who owns a vacation home north of Montreal in the Mont-Tremblant area, personally offered his star power to the hospital.

Douglas’s publicist confirmed Monday the Montreal hospital discovered the cancer first.
“That’s where he found out he had his cancer,” Allen Burry said of the Jewish General Hospital in a phone interview.
“He was happy to do it (the fundraiser).”

Organizers of the $375-a-head gala on May 3 have pencilled Douglas in as the honoured invitee, meaning he will mingle with ticket holders, sign autographs and say a few words to the guests.

Those hoping for more face time with Douglas can buy a $750 VIP ticket, giving them access to his pre-event cocktail.
“It was his very gracious offer to help us in view of his own battle with throat cancer,” said Dr. Saul Frenkiel, a co-chair of the fundraiser who was personally contacted by Douglas. “We’re hoping as the evening unfolds that it will be a big year (for the event) ... there’s a buzz.”

Douglas and his actress wife, Catherine Zeta-Jones, have even put themselves up for auction. The biggest item on the live auction list is a golf outing at Mont-Tremblant with the Hollywood power couple. The annual event has featured celebrities in the past, including Montreal Canadiens legend Jean Beliveau and Canadian Olympic Committee president Marcel Aubut.

But Frenkiel is pretty sure Douglas is the most prominent drawing card in the event’s 17 years. “Certainly, Michael Douglas ... helps to bring to the attention of the public the need to do important research in the head and neck cancer field,” said Frenkiel, a head and neck surgeon, or otolaryngologist.

He underlined the importance of the charity because some head and neck cancers are on the rise, including thyroid cancers and throat cancers caused by the human papillomavirus.

The money raised will fund research and improvements to direct patient care. Last year’s event brought in around $1.5 million, said Frenkiel, who hopes to break the $1 million mark again.

“We were very appreciative of his kind support — it was a gracious personal offer and certainly reflected his own inner personality and willingness to help battle head and neck cancer,” he said of Douglas.

Shortly after announcing last August that he had been diagnosed with cancer, Douglas told David Letterman that he had his persistently sore throat checked out earlier in the summer.

“I actually went through a litany of doctors and tests — they didn’t find anything,” Douglas said during an appearance on Letterman’s “Late Show.”

Douglas, who will begin shooting the film “Liberace” this spring, announced in January that his tumour was gone and that he had regained 12 of the 32 pounds he had lost during treatment.

“He’s doing well, he’s doing extremely well,” Burry said.

If people would exercise regularly, stop eating crap (junk food, fastfood, fatty foods, etc), not smoke and take better care of themselves, you'd have a lot less people with cancer.

Do you think that viruses magically disappear overnight?

I wasn't necessarily referring to viruses, per say. I was mostly referring to bacteria (that cause stds, etc). I was momentarily slightly off-topic.

But your point is well taken. If an sp has a virus, it won't matter if other clients have been with her before someone sees her. Viruses don't simply disappear after showering, etc.

p.s. There's no f$&# way i'm doing daty if i'm not the first client or even suspect i may not be.

But some pussies are so irresistible. Besides, it seems Douglas probably got it from his lovely wife, who likely got it while she was younger before she married Douglas.

I suppose if a dude suspects he contracted the HPV, he should rush to the hospital to get antibiotics, which may help delay the onset of throat cancer. DATY will never go away as lesbians engage in this lovely sexual activity.

Hell, life is short. Enjoy DATY, if you love it, safely and use common sense.

It occurred to you that Douglas's disclosure unmistakably suggested vilification of his wife's pussy as diseased meat.

Not really. He has admitted in the past to being a serial womanizer & sex addict, which he has received counselling for. If you watched the HBO documentary on Michael & Kirk Douglas (i believe it was called something like "Father & Son"), he does discuss the numerous times he was unfaithful to his former wife, Diandra. I'm also guessing that like many movie stars & celebrities, he has dabbled in 'the hobby'.

Actors like Michael Douglas didn't have to hobby. He probably had young women groupies lined up waiting to see him.

So you think a man already infected with HPV cannot give it to a woman through cunnilingus, but can only be on the receiving end from performing cunnilingus?
