There are civilised places in this world (e.g. Germany) in which it is perfectly legal to drive on some highways at least as fast at the motorist in question.
Given our roads, it is certainly very dangerous to travel at that speed here. I wonder if disrespect for the law is created by ridiculously low speed limits. (70km/hr on the Bonaventure HIGHWAY, 30 km/hr. on business streets such as Westminister).
This is getting even further off topic, but do police give tickets to bicyclists who exceed 30km/hr on streets with low speed limits such as Westminister? Also, I see police ignore people making sudden line changes without signalling, which, in my opinion, is far more dangerous than speeding.

I've seen signs in Ontario that say "150km over speedlimit- $10,000 fine and roadside forfiture of driver license and vehicle" or something to that effect, so this guy got off easy. Where is the road that is in good enought condition to go that fast? That is equal to 150 mph in the U.S. which is about the same speed that an airliner rotates prior to lift off, or touches down. This guy put a lot of people in danger.

So the reason for low speed limits is to enable neglect of road maintenance? Why have paved rows at all? We should switch back to cowpaths with farm animals pulling carts. Oxen don't speed.
As for valet keys, they prevent access to the trunk and perhaps the glove compartment. Obviously, valets have to be able to drive.

As for the sarcasm about oxcarts- obviously the speed limit exists for road safety above all. I often thought that the autoroute speed limit was 100 km/h because the ministry of transport was too cheap to change all the signage to, say, 110 or 120. Example, how many of us got a ticket for doing between 101-110 km/h on the autoroute where the limit is 100. Likely none. For Christs sake even New Brunswick has a 110 km/h limit. My honest theory is that Quebeckers add 10 or 20 km/h to the posted limit and the cops go for whoever is speeding above the average.

I've been told by friends that the police will give you 10kph before you get a ticket. In Alberta between Calgary and Edmonton the speed limit is 120. B.C. has 110 between Abbotsford and Hope, but most two lane roads in the interior are 90.

First of all never leave your car with a valet,this is something that is not out of the ordinary for these young punks,btw how many of you are guilty of speeding at one point in your lives,I know I,m guilty but I did it with my own car!That was in my younger days
I know guys that work valet and I would never let a valet guy park my car, and I don't even drive a nice car. The stories that they've told me makes me afraid....very afraid.

I agree I would never give my keys to a valet either, I would rather park somewhere else if it were mandatory.

I am surprised that there are no car theft charges, the guy took a car that did not belong to him.

no 2 - crossing a solid line
no 3- blowing a red light
no 4- seatbelt
no 5- not putting my flasher
no 6- dangerous driving
total amount 3200$

Two years later still fighting them in court after judge suspends case becasuse it was 1 o'clock and he didnt want to finish late.
