President Obama's motorcade makes its way through Peosta, Iowa, en route to the Rural Economic Forum at the Northeast Iowa Community College Aug. 16.

WASHINGTON -- President Obama is barnstorming the heartland to boost U.S. jobs in a taxpayer-financed luxury bus the government had custom built -- in Canada, The New York Post has learned.

The $1.1 million vehicle, one of two that Quebec-based Prevost sold the government, has been tricked out by the Secret Service with state-of-the-art security features and creature comforts.

It's a VIP H3-45 model, the company's top of the line, and is used by major traveling rock bands.

"That's the more luxurious model," Christine Garant of Prevost told The Post.

"When we have the Country Music Awards, we sometimes see a lot of them," she said, noting that Kid Rock, David Lee Roth and Kenny Rogers also have owned them.

Obama's new ride is equipped to carry all the baggage a president needs -- including the "football" that allows him to remotely control U.S. nuclear weapons.

It's ironic that the bus was made in Canada. I have no problem with the bus being made in Canada. The US is a good trading partner with Canada. Canada sells a lot of goods to the US and buys goods from the US, especially food products.

However, that being said, it is much easier for a Canadian to get employment in the US than a US citizen getting employment in Canada. I know this for a fact since I have worked with many Canadians, and I have inquired about employment in Canada, Canadian employees let you know that they will select a Canadian before an US citizen, where US companies do not. Of course the US job market is larger because of the population.

But a real problem and the irony of the bus being made in Canada is the number of jobs being offshored to India and other places in the world where the rate of pay is vastly disportionate. It would not make sense for a company to source jobs to Canada unless those jobs need to be in Canada because of logistics. But when you offshore a job to India, the money pretty much leaves the economy for good.

There is a market for US goods in Canada, but there is very little market for US goods in India. US goods are too expensive for the average consumer in India. Until countries like the US and India achieve wage and a standard of living parity and a vast market is established in India, there will be little benefit to the US in a trading partner like India. In fact that's where a lot of our unemployment is coming from.

It's ironic that the bus was made in Canada. .

The 'outa shell' was made by Prevost in Quebec but customization is done by Hemphill Bros. in Tennesse.
Both bus will be used not only by Obama but other US officials.

Prevost has been in business 40 years before and they got over 100 contracts from the Canadian gov., 66 for the defense dept.
They revolutionized the industry many times.

So the US is buying the best...again.... since Dubia bought the same :D

I guess this 'news' is a tea bagger's thang !

I didn't know if the inside was made in the US or Canada. I was going by the first post.

tea bagger's thang? It's a really ignorant statement.

It used to be that the US Government bought only from American manufacturers. Apparently not so any more, they probably put out bids and give the contract to the lowest bidder. I personally don't care where his tour bus was built. I'm hoping that whomever is going to drive the thing won't be driving from Point A to Point B with the left turn signal on.

It used to be that the US Government bought only from American manufacturers.

Since when ?
The Us Gov. bought whatever they could from the best they could all over the world...when they could.

The Buy America act contains all kinds of exceptions.

They even bought 21 Russian helo a couple months ago.
Come and visit some of the best in Canada and you will even find a departement (in some of them) guarded by a US representative with an American flag.

Even Bush and other reps bought Prevost buses before and that is why this 'news' is basically coming from people 'ignorant' like Dana Loesch who is a 'national leadership team member of the Nationwide Tea Party Coalition'.

They basically are blaming Obama for the same thing they did 'before'.

The whole issue of 'jobs' is a side show to the real problem being the value of the US dollar and what it is based on, anyway !

But hey ! have it your way !
