Got up this morning & we decided to take a 3 day journey to the Big Apple.

I'm reporting in from the bustling NY State capital region of Albany & even though I tired from the FUN filled drive & picnic along the way, I thought that I would take a brief respite & report in to my fellow Merbites.

I will continue to report the journey's events when arrival in NYC occurs sometime tomorrow aft or possibly tomorrow night.

Stay Tuned !

NYC rocks

SL,

There is no apple like the Big Apple! If you have time, you might want to have a drink at the Waldorf Astoria - lots of SPs congregate at the bar downstairs. I personally prefer the W hotel bar scene. Enjoy your trip, there are plenty of fun places to go to in NYC.

SL,

If you pursue regnaD's suggestion and go to Chinatown - one of the few places in NYC where you can get a reasonably priced meal - I recommend Ping's on 22 Mott Street. Fine dim sum for lunch, and I especially like the baked egg custard pastry for dessert.

I tend to be a big fan of the Museum of Natural History near Central Park. They have a really cool planetarium there, and very interesting planetarium shows. I also like the Guggenheim Museum which I think is on 88th Street or somewhere in that vicinity.

Last time in NYC I ate at a fantastic, upscale diner called Brooklyn Diner on Columbus Circle, not far from Trump Towers. I think 57th and Broadway or in that vicinity. Best diner food I have ever had in my life, with authentic Cuban dishes on the menu. I recall having a Cuban skirt steak which was simply splendid (perfectly cooked and spiced), and Boston Cream Pie for dessert. It's very reasonably priced for what they are serving. All the waiters/waitresses dress in tuxedos and they have a 1950s style decoration and music including jukeboxes if I recall correctly.

If you are in that neighborhood you can also go to the movies at nearby Lincoln Center.

Have fun.

NYC's armpit

Methinks it's the royal we, but I guess the non-royal we will find out tomorrow.

New York Noodletown on Bowery just below Canal is a wonderful hole in the wall if you like Chinese food. (I confess that I'm not a fan of NYC, where I grew up, but Chinatown is one thing where NYC has it all over Montreal.)

I'd tell you to try Per Se (Thomas Keller's joint, of Napa/French Laundry fame), but you won't get a seat. Daniel Bouley has two joints: Bouley (overpriced) and Danube (better). If you take the trip to Brooklyn to try out Peter Luger's, remember they are cash only.

If you're into Japanese, Nobu Next Door is much easier to get a table at then Nobu. More casual, but still great, inventive Japanese.

My recommendation is Mario Batali's flagship, Babbo. If you go right before 5 pm you can get a walk-in table. Their tasting (or degustation) menu is 8 courses or more, a real tour of Italy. I ran into (literally, as in, oops, sorry I bumped you) both Jake Gyllenhall and Bono there on the same night once.

Day Two:

Took off late out of Albany & we decided to stop at Woodbury Common for some shopping. All are very happy in this venture to say the least.

What should have been a 2.5 hr drive from Albany to Manhattan took an obsene amount of time as we got caught in a massive traffic jam at the Harriman entrance as there was an accident 5 miles down on the 87 & it took 2 hrs to traverse those 5 miles. Some singing ensued along the way & waving at this car of 2 young girls driving alongside us. They started it not SL.

Arrived in NYC & after catching a bite to eat, my travelling companion is resting for now & I've found this internet cafe.

I think that I might have to disappear for a while & visit an old friend & a bar or 2 before returning. You know how it is when you really want to escape from your travelling companion ? Especially when nerves begin to fray with delusions of grandeur popping up where they have reason to be & will never be ?

I hate that when they think you feel something !

Is it possible that i just saw your travelling companion on the Daily Show? If not, i must be hallucinating....not sleeping for 2 days will cause this, i've been told. I was told Central Park is beautiful at this time of the year. If it's warm enough, maybe you guys would enjoy a nice bike ride around the park. It's supposedly very romantic at night.

Day 2

No real clue where to begin this day's events but here goes.

Left the internet cafe last night, to meet an old friend but NOW I find myself in bigger trouble than I had bargained for because my companion who thinks she knows how I feel, must have rolled over find no SL to be found.

She's been fooled before, so perhaps she'll believe anything I tell her as she thinks that she's never wrong about men but she always is.

You'd think that the inevitable of who, what & where needed to be asked by her & certainly no, WHY, is needed in this case.

After leaving the internet cafe to walk downtown to meet my friend, I walked along 5th Ave, I strangely enough happened to pass right in front of some NYC Cabaret (it's a SC). Imagine that SL passes in front of a SC, I must have a magnet. At least I had to I stop to look at the pics on the windows.

As I started to walk away, some HOT girl standing on the sidewalk yelled out at me, "YOU KNOW YOU WANT SOME!", so as I turned to make sure it was me that she was talking to, she flung open her full length trench coat to reveal her FLAMING HOT BOD which was only sporting a string bikini.

Now being the good samaritan that I always profess to be, I felt that I needed to keep this woman warm up, in some manner, in the cold of a NYC night, & that combined with the Krytonite effect that was beginning to occur in yours truly.

As my obvious weaknessnes were commencing, all else & everyone was surprisingly forgotten about both my companion & my old friend standing on the corner of 28th Sreet & 7th Ave.

So just like DATY, I felt like I had to dive into this joint. Lots of drinks (more than just Perrier) were flowing around all over & there was plenty of touching & grinding from both her & I.

When in typical SL fashion (never wastes time), I suggested to her for us to leave or I would get another room for us to have some real fun together in she continually tried bullshit me saying that she really liked me & that I had touched her soul & she loved my aura (never had an intimate conversation) so I knew that she was both full of shit, wanted my money and was not on this planet.

This went on for about an hour and a half, then I had to get the hell out of there as my old friend was continually calling my cell& I could see that nothing was going to come of this nonsense as she said that wanted me to come back on Friday night. Seeing as I was going to be back on Montreal on Friday & combined with her utter bs the decision to leave was an easy one.

And just for the nay sayers, I wasn't looking for another $5.00 bj.

I left to meet up with my friend & I was so happy that we did after all these yrs as we had a great time together.

Later on today I'll return to complete last night's events as I'm going to have lunch with an old school buddy & my companion is shopping to her heart's content.

Good to see that you're having a great trip, SL. If someone out there deserves to unwind, it's you.

By the way...please confirm this rumour is wrong, since i can't picture the thought in my memory. I was told by a usually reliable source that your companion coaxed you into taking her out skateboarding. Is this true? I sure hope not. This activity can be quite dangerous and should be left for the younger ones. I know you're the type that likes to try everything, but come on...skateboarding? Pu-lease!!!

Day 3

I'm walking to meet an old buddy for lunch while my companion is shopping up a storm along 5th Ave & costing me more than I hoped but such is life & as I walked along puffing on a stogie, I get eye contact with some woman & as I turn to look back at her, as we actually pass each other, we both stop & I say, "Do I know you?". She commences to tell me who she is from my past 30 yrs ago, blah , blah, blah (I have no clue who she is) & that she was married but recently divorced now. I gather that she's inviting me out for drinks tonight but I have to refuse as, a) obvious prior engagements & b) She's gained considerable weight, an unreal cute face but I still don't know her.

Went to meet my buddy for lunch & he seems to remember her & it seems that I might have known her intimately at some point but like I said to my buddy, who can remember that far back someone whose name doesn't even ring a bell.

After lunch, I walked all the way back downtown towards my hotel & lo & behold, as I was thinking how this evening was going to go, out pops my companion from some store on 5th Ave. We walk back to our hotel & all is ok as she's resting before our dinner plans.

I'll continue later tonight as I have to go to get ready for dinner.

did you give her a music cd???:D
oliver

I just got off the phone with him and they were on their way to dinner. He did ask which CD he should buy her, and i told him to be more original and give her a DVD instead. I recommended one of my all-time favorites, The Notebook. He's supposed to figure out a way to find out if she's seen it or not. I saw it on the dish once again the other night...what a great movie! I've watched it over 15 times and counting.

This reminds me of an evening last year, when i was invited to a supper held by the operator of a well-known agency. I was introduced to one of the girls....a fellow hobbyist insists she reminds him of Anne of Green Gables. Anyways, later in the evening, she came up to me and says: "we know one another, right?" I frown and ask her what she means. "Well...did we ever see one another?" I tell her no, we never did. She then goes "i mean...we did have sex before, i'm certain of this...if not in a client/sp setting, then in our personal life....right?" I told her that i didn't think so, but she seemed to insist, so i finally told her 'maybe we did'. However....i have no idea what she's talking about. However....maybe my memory was failing me once again, which seems to happen more and more as i'm getting older.....:(
