I've noticed that you inquire about many of the hotels in Montreal, and seem to stay at various properties on your trips. In reading previous posts, for the most part you also do very well through Priceline.

So I wondered about your post in the GT thread

I work for a major hotel chain that has a number of properties in Montreal, and I would be willing to assist my fellow merbites in finding accommodations for the GT! I can get great rates as an employee

If you get such a great employee rate, why bother with Priceline and take potluck?

BTW Before you answer with "I don't hobby in my employer's hotels because they might find out what I do in Montreal", wouldn't it be more dangerous to facilitate a group of hobbyists staying in a hotel all using your employee name to get a discount?

Not trying to start an argument, just not seeing the logic...

I appreciate your question and I am not offended at all! Often in the hotel business the emplyee rate is not available, thus we are forced to find a better rate! Also, my particular question about Opus Montreal is because I was given a gift certificate for a stay and have never stayed at the property! Thanks for asking and no offense taken...

I stayed there in the past, it was once called Hotel Godin so look for that. It is a nice modern hotel, seemed out of the way and quiet, not very busy when I was there last summer. Key card is required. Look for threads by Urbanite he is the one that commented on it in a thread which casued me to book it. I dont think it has a restaurant or roomservice, but it has nice size rooms and showers not tubs. Probably is similar to a step down to a W hotel, modern furniture, pert staff. Id stay there again, but I prob wont as I think rates are way up from last year.

Yes, I have stayed at the Godin, now Opus, several times, and like it very much. For me it is a good mix of hipster vibe, more affordable than the really expensive ones like W, Gault, St. paul, etc., and located right up the street from Cleos too (I like to have my fun, and then go to Cleo's afterwards). It has FINALLY gotten a long-standing problem with restaurant and bar license worked out (I think) and those are now operational there. It's a bit more expensive than the priceline method, but if you shop carefully it's not too bad. I expect to stay for three nights at about $150 per night in July. I recommend it. Good staff, nice people, and never any problem at all if I meet girls in the lobby, or have them ask for an elevator key themselves by simply stopping at the desk to say they're coming up to my room.

Thanks for the repsonse! My FWB in MTL, Friend with benefits in Montreal, was given a gift cert for two nites via a friend...can't beat that rate...lol Any tricks or special requests I should ask for when I arrive? Anything to avoid? Thanks....

Well, the advice is similar to that which I give on any hotel: choose an upper floor, away from the elevator. There are views toward the "courtyard" (or St. Laurent) and the city (the other direction). i think you'll like it. Let us know how it goes. I should be there 7/10-7/13.

It is time for me to give a bit back to my MERB brothers. First, i must say the hotel has a young and vibrant appeal. The rooms are decorated very Ikeaish, and they look real nice and modern. The rooms have a feel of sleak and nuevo, but they lack a warmth and homie feel! I like modern and stylish hotels and don't want to feel like I am at home in a hotel, but the rooms felt uninviting and cold...and I don't mean the temperature. I think they are trying to be too hip if that is possible. The beds were comfy and I liked the sheets...very cool, crisp and kinda slippery....lol The bathroom, with tub was cool....very well designed and it felt like a James Bond shower scene my lover said....she watched as I showered from the bubble bath! Anyway, I digress! We didn't try the restaurants...sorry! No pool kinda sucked. The staff was attentive, but they seemed to be playing a role of being hip....hmmmmm They were sort of standoffish. The room temperature was hard to keep at one temp...always too hot or too cold. We were on the 5th floor and the nightclub noise was annoying...more like a dull drumbeat, didn't use the earplugs provided. The halls were loud and this is definately a party hotel. The room felt like a glorified prison cell and echoed not because it was extremely big, I'd say average siz, but because of the materials they choose...hard with little or no soft edges. Would I return...nah! they nickle and dime for everything inc internet and parking...$26 a day! Back to the Marriott Chateau Champlain for me....

Did you find it Sp friendly? Did you meet your guests in the Lobby or did they get let up by staff?

I like hotel reviews as it adds to the experience.
