or

Anyone is permitted to start a discussion in the Lounge as long as it not directly promoting the services they offer or advertising in any way. General topics are always welcome.

Hello Mod 8,

Thank you for your answer. I just started earlier a post related to my comeback on Merb and asking who could be still participating on Merb that I know. Mod 11 closed it suddenly saying that was not permitted. I was really surprised. I had never been stopped in the past here when I used to participate a lot. I was recognized as a major feminine poster here.
This decision made me believe that there were new rules on Merb, but I am happy that advertisers could freely participate as before.

Maybe I wrote badly my thoughts or my intention in the thread I started. Do you have any suggestion how I can ask my question that will be ok?

Thank you!

Have a nice evening!

Hello Sweetie,

The rules have not changed. As I understand it, asking who is still on Merb is something like a personal communication that is supposed to be confined to PMs. Once in a while a personal communication may be tolerated briefly if a member cannot be reached otherwise, such as..."Maria, your PM box is full. Please make room so we can communicate." Otherwise we are supposed to stick to creative subjects, not use the public board like what would be a kind of inter-personal texting interchange system.

***This applies to all of us whether we are members or advertisers.

So start a subject and hopefully some will respond. Maybe me...if we don't all regret that...lol. :eyebrows:

If my understanding is a bit off, I am sure the mods will clarify.

J'espère que vous allez séjourner et y participer.

OOOX...Cheers,

Merlot

Bonjour Maria

Merlot and Mod 8 got it right, Merlot et Mod 8 ont raison.

Let me add to Mod 8's intervention:
The type of thread you started contributed nothing to MERB, it only granted you extra visibility. Allowing this type of thread would open the door to MERB becoming nothing more than a promotion tool for the girls/agency/salon instead of a place to make reviews. We can't allow that: the R in MERB stands for "reviews".

Anybody, advertisers included, can start a thread in the lounge or other appropriate sections, if it benefit to the entire community. However, advertisers must use good judgment in order to ensure their posts won't be so frequent or futile, the community might start thinking they are only made in order to gain visibility.

Thanks
------

Merci

Hello Maria,

If a thread is directly related to your activities as a provider, it would be considered to be promotional in nature. As such that belongs in the advertising section of the board. That is the reason M11 removed the thread. For a good example, you may look at Eva Charms and her recent return and announcement in the advertiser forum which was the proper way to announce that she is back. If you wish to start a general topic asking about any changes since you were last here, and not containing any self promotion or announcement such as " Hello everyone, I'm back!", that would be permitted.

We are aware that it can be difficult to deal with advertiser limitations when it comes to starting such a thread. If you wish you may submit the topic of the thread and your starting post to a moderator and we will look it over and advise if any changes are required.

This is not a new rule, any post that is in any way promotional in nature has always been restricted to the advertiser forums.

Welcome back!

Thank you very much, Mod 11, Mod 8, Merlot ( :) ...) to have answered to my question.

I didn't realize that was a kind of advertising. I used to have a lots of fun writing here in the past, and I used to have a lots of good pals here.

Maybe, Merlot have a good point, and I could start a subject. (Have I been so "bad" in my exchanges here Merlot? hahaha)

I tried to always erase my signature when I am participating in a discussion in the spirit to separate the advertising in it.

Anyway, thank you very much for your informations. And thank you for your welcome back :)

ps: I just saw that someone didn't forget me............. I won't answer, I am not here to make wars, right? ;-)

Hello Clavie,

There is no reason to remove this thread. A question was asked and answered and the topic may be of interest to others who have the same question. Not all questions to moderators have to be asked by PM. You asked yours in public did you not?

If a thread is directly related to your activities as a provider, it would be considered to be promotional in nature.

Honestly, I have always been confused about what constituted a thread that is promotional in nature. Some years ago, there was an agency SP who registered a handle which was not her agency name, but her soon to be independent name. She was a very witty and clever young lady (and I say this having met her in person), and started posting experiences she had with unnamed clients. These highly entertaining threads were permitted although she was an unpaid advertiser, and although they were basically dramatic reenactments of experiences she had with clients and thus related very directly to her provider activities. Later on, I believe she was told to stop posting in this manner and become a paid advertiser, and I think she eventually chose the latter.

Personally, I have come to assume that the only real reason for any advertiser to post is to promote herself or itself. Even if a post is in the spirit of the conversation of a thread, it is still promotional. Perhaps such posting should be allowed with paid advertisers. I do recall one paid advertiser who abused this privilege by starting thread after thread asking questions about whether clients like this, that or the other thing. After a while it became tiresome, obvious and blatant self promotion through the repeated commencement of inane threads. The mods at the time, perhaps you, stepped in and finally put an end to it by banning her.

I am personally confused by the rule/policy, and I am glad I am not a paid advertiser, because I would probably ruminate over the confusion if I were.

Hello EB,

Basically if a post is directly related to a provider's activities in the hobby, it would be considered to be promotional. For example, we will not permit a provider to start a thread asking what kind of services clients would like her to offer. We will, however, permit a provider to post in the sports threads or other general topic threads in the lounge. If any provider or agency was to saturate the board with various topics just to increase their visibility, yes, we will step in to stop it.

The basic guideline that providers should use when starting a thread is that if the thread directly pertains to themselves, it will be considered promotional and be removed. If a topic is general in nature and pertains to a general audience, it will likely be permitted. If we feel any provider is overstepping the bounds by creating numerous threads, we will contact them by PM regarding the situation.

As far as non advertising SPs are concerned, there in nothing in the rules preventing them from becoming members of MERB. We do not discriminate by race, creed, color, sex or profession. Of course if they are not advertisers they are not permitted to have any contact information in their profile or to disclose it on the board in any way. If they are found to be advertising by PM they will be permanently banned.

Overall there is no perfect answer to the question. Each post is evaluated on it's own merits and the circumstances in which the post was made. Just as all posts made on the board are evaluated. That is why there are moderators here.

Visibility is a double-edged sword. Starting threads in the lounge section is not for any SP. Starting poor and obvious marketing-oriented threads in the lounge could be very harmful to some SPs. There was a time when we had smart and articulate providers making some insightful contributions, alas all this is over now.

Some self-proclaimed HDH SPs think that posting poor threads is all it takes to get exposure on MERB. This is probably due to a biased perception they have of hobbyists. On the other hand, we cannot blame them for this bias, can we? Every time they meet a hobbyist, the guy's in a state where all his blood is routed downwards. Hence, some SPs think that all hobbyists are morons.

Thread cleaned. Analysis of Maria's return and discussions about other boards or their members are off topic subjects.

Even more, any stuff about other boards in no longer allowed on MERB, since the time all previous threads were locked bt Fred Zed. We won't give ammunition to anybody and won't let the stupidities start here again. Whoever raise the topic of competitor boards will get 1 month off.

Thanks

It seems that I miss something.

Please, Mod and all other members of Merb, I want to make things clear about some posts here.

1-Long time ago, I refused to meet with John_eh_McDuff and with Clavie.
2- Long time ago, I refuses Eva Charms to a dinner, and even we had discuss of that and thing seem to be "ok"
3- ***********************************

Octavian: Why I quite? If I have to tell the main reason I quite, I will tell to Fred Zed himself. But, my feeling is it is not necessary anymore.
Doc Holliday: Thank you, merci! for your appreciation.

All Mods, please, I am asking you now that you know about "the past" about some members vs myself, may I ask you if this is possible to have an eye on them to discourage all tentatives of bad behaviors against me? I don't need that kind of bad publicity, I am here peacefully to do my little quiet business, and maybe, participate, why not? I'll see if some subject will appeal me............. Thank you for your understanding of the situation.

MD :)

EDIT: Removed accusation made against a member with no proof or explanation included to back it up.
