What did he pass away from?

Was it clogged arteries??

I saw a fat woman eating a plate of poutine on a 10" plate and the mound was 5" high? I wanted to go over to ask her what was making her so fat!:p

Truly ironic!

When you think of it, his death could almost be ruled a suicide.

The old adage "What goes around comes around" comes to mind.

Jean-Paul Roy the creator of poutine passed away in Drummondville

Rest in pieces.

It's an all-time no-no for me. Je préfère un bon plat goûteux à base de saumon.

Poutine has to be one of the most damaging foods ever invented. But i suppose that back in 1956, people didn't know that such fattening foods/meals could be so damaging to your health in the long run & possibly wind up killing you. I sometimes wonder if this isn't the meal of choice for actors wanting to quickly gain a lot of weight for a movie role. If not, they should consider it (and keep in mind that it might damage their health in the long run, of course).

Recently, i was sitting at Reuben's and noticed that a lot of people in the restaurant had ordered the same thing as me, which was the Super Smoked Meat, which contains mounds of sliced smoked meat on rye bread. "Surely all of this smoked meat can't be good for you", i told myself. Just imagine someone who eats this stuff (incl. poutine) day after day after day. It almost makes me sick just to think of it!

Apparently the inventors of "Fluff" (the fake marshmallow spread), "Pogo" (deep fried, batter covered, hot dog) and "Mae West" (sugar, covered in sugar, filled with sugar, and then dipped in sugar) were invited to the funeral but none of the three were able to attend due to extreme fatness.

I wonder what has killed more people... effects of global warming? pollution? or poutine?

I think it would be a close call

Post WWII era when the fast food market exploded on the scene. Did not have the medical knowledge we have today such as the link between smoking and cancer or other ills.

Concerning food your post makes a good point about moderation.

"Yeah, but he's gotta be one charmin' MF!"

Before today I never heard of this man (sad to say).

But I gotta laugh 'cause somehow this whole discussion reminds me of the conversation in 'Pulp Fiction' where John Travolta's character ("Vincent Vega") and Samuel L. Jackson's character ("Mean MF") are talking about their favorite foods and their talking about eating bacon.

And, before the whole spiel about how a "pig's got to be 10x more charmin' than that Arnold on 'Green Acres' ", John Travolta explains why it is that he likes bacon.

When Samuel L. Jackson informs him that pork isn't good for you, and that the pig's a filthy animal, John Travolta's reply is simply:

"Yeah ... but it's good!" :)

And that, folks, is alls I gots to say about Quebec's beloved "poutine"!!! :D

Everyone knows it's got to be 'Pepsi' !!!

LOL - No I don't work for 'Coke'.

Here's the run-down:

#1 - Poutine is actually food (sort of).

#2 - Cigarettes still have no calories (as bad as they might be).

#3 - Pepsi: Sugar water & chemicals = "Just Say No".

#4 -What a way to go! :D

To summarize, it's always said that, "Everybody's got to go sometime".

So, as long as you're going to go, you may as well do it with a smile on your face. So always opt for #4 ;)

Well, the most healthy one of the bunch has to be 'sex with hookers'. Sex is one of the best exercises on the planet & it's also great for the mind. As for what's the worst of the bunch, it also depends on the amount of consumption. Eating poutine regularly will make you go fat & clog up your arteries in the long run. Cigarettes....very addictive & bad for the lungs & the heart among other things. One of the leading causes of heart disease & cancer. Pepsi....i used to drink 5-6 cans of Coke per day & my weight skyrocketed. I've since quit the habit since i was getting almost addicted to the stuff & i would have been a diabetic by the age of 50 if i didn't cut down. Very large amount of sugar is soft drinks....too much sugar will be harmful to you in the long run. So my vote for the worst of the bunch has to be cigarettes. Easy.

Health-wise, how bad are smoked meat sandwiches?

Studies have shown that too much red meat can be fatal in the long run, so i'd say smoked meat sandwiches are only bad if you eat them regularly. Moderation is always the key when it comes to such products. Eat such foods moderately & they shouldn't become a problem.

Along with world pollution, global warming & various other planetary crisises we'll be facing in the future, people are presently eating themselves to death & this might be catastrophic to the health care system if people don't realize this now & seriously do something about it.
