Interesting study?

It's easy to draw parallels between the monkeys' mating dance and our own, but Gumert warns against reading too much into primate studies like this one. The paper draws no conclusions about what these observations in monkeys mean for the human world. In fact, whether and how scientists should extrapolate from primate behavior is a fairly "big debate," says Gumert. Certainly, our biology underpins much of what we do, but so does our culture and environment. Gumert asks, "Where do we draw the line?"

Just not sure what point you are making here. Are you comparing negotiating human couplings with those in the animal world? Are you telling us there is a lesson here for us all? Am genuinely curious as to what direction you feel this should go. Or is it just for amusement? Curious!

Grooming as Payment?

It seems to me that only a rabid capitalist would interpret grooming behaviour as payment. Sure, there may be some notion of exchange in the monkey behaviour but viewing it in non-economic terms, grooming would be part of what humans would call foreplay. When humans engage in pre-coital behaviour we never refer to it as prostitution. You do not become a prostitute by receiving a massage from your partner prior to coupling. This North American need to reduce everything to economic terms does not serve us well in our quest for understanding of primate behaviour, including human behaviour.

Surely the lesson for human males is that you are more likely to get lucky if you pay attention to the girl before you initiate sex. The ladies like to be kissed and cuddled - yes, and have their hair stroked or brushed. In fact, the typical entire date (cocktails, movie, dsinner, etc.) may be seen as elaborate foreplay leading up to sex. This may be seen as a parallel to the monkey behaviour.

Interestingly, the escort (i.e. prostitute) experience essentially replaces most of this extensive (and expensive) foreplay with a cash payment. This probably goes some way towards explaining the endless whining on this board about mechanical sex, or the girl seeming uninterested, or only interested in the money. The escort may feel adequately compensated for the sex, but she doesn't feel courted and the experience doesn't make her feel special.

My intent, as always, is to share a little information and make it as close to the truth as I am capable, hereunder and in all of my posts. If the fact that I've hung out with some escorts makes you jealous, allow me to assure you that that is your problem, not mine, and entirely one of perception. This past year has been a learning experience, but seeing and understanding on a personal level the sordid, vile side of what is laconically called a "hobby" in an attempt to gloss over these aspects here has left me saddened, disillusioned, and truly with nothing to be envious of.

I have been privy to some very ugly things which have left me shaken to the core, no more so than of late. For the moment, and with respect to others privacy, I won't speak to details, but I have been wrestling with the notion of writing about the experience, clearly not here, but somewhere online, and with appropriate reduxes to protect people's privacy while at the same time laying out some damnable hard truths.

Don't want you to feel we are ganging up on you. And though you may feel one or two of us are a bit abrupt and cutting to the chase perhaps more directly than you might like it still remains that it serves no purpose to throw those ideas of

and just leave it at that. First off it is a given here that you have to earn credibility for any point you care to make. We'd look pretty stupid buying into vague scenarios. If you can

employ appropriate reduxes to protect people's privacy while at the same time laying out some damnable hard truths.

and maybe keep things in general terms then that might be a good start. How about it?

HA! Oh gawd! I love monkeys!..... they are just so damn sexy! Is it legal to have sex with monkeys? Are there any incalls that feature monkeys? I prefer the ones with long black hair, mocking laughs and that don't throw their feces at me after a short sex session.

Great read on your Time article, but it does really say anything you didn't already know. If you are a monkey, and are nice to another monkey, you have a much better chance of getting monkey tang than if you just steal her food or attack her mother. If monkeys just stepped up their game a little, say like taking out the their dates to a really nice restaurant........ there is no telling how far that monkey could go!
