Just got through watching Rafael Nadal beat Mariano Puerta to win the French Open in 4 sets. Watching Nadal, a young 19 year old Spaniard, he reminds me a lot of me!!!! And I can't think of a bigger compliment to give him! The guy returns everything - what Court coverage! Also has some nicely developed biceps for a teenage kid.

This reminds me that if the Hotel de la Montagne has a ping pong table I will take on any challengers at the July 2 party and if you can beat me, you get 2 free drinks. Unless you are highly skilled, don't bother accepting the challenge, as I am a very accomplished table tennis player.

hobby11,

Bring your paddle, I am not sure if we will be able to find a table, if you are the better man you get two free drinks. But you better get used to having your shots returned.........I have gotten a lot of points because my opponent did not think the shot was coming back, and they thought wrong................ :p

Hey Eager B, I'll take that challange anyday. I'm not incredible but i'm a very good tennis player and i play a lot of table tennis (lot's of nights to smoke some root and play some good ol pong) See you there and we can make a better bet then 2 drinks. i'll give you the same prize if you beat me.

Yea the kid is good, but he's only a superstar on clay. He got ousted by some no name the week after on hard coart.

Mr. C,

Nadal was ousted in that tourney because he was dog tired after the French. You are right that he is unproven on other Courts but I like his potential. He just turned 19 years old, and as mentioned he has a nicely developed body for his age and moves around very well. I think he can be an all court player, but time will tell. He is definitely a superstar on clay though right now.

Hey Eager Beaver

I'm ready for our ping pong challenge. I just got home from the bahmas and i won a tournement in my hotel. Nothing sooo special just a lot of players to beat to win. They gave me a bottle of appleton rum, and boy did i get hammered.

Mr. C,

Funny you should mention hotel ping pong tourrnaments. I have participated in two, at Club Med in Cancun and at Club Med Turks & Caicos. I made the championship match in both tournaments. The first time I had 3 match points, but eventually lost to a guy from California who won the gold medal. The other tournament, I lost in the championship match to a guy from Russia who was probably not as good as the Californian. I do remember winning my semifinal match in that tournament against a French woman who spoke no English. I came from 10 points down to beat her and she was swearing in French, I had no idea what she was saying. Once I was able to time her ball, she was dead meat. I was down like 12-2 and beat her 21-15 in the decisive game.

I'll pack my paddle and some balls.

Lol, i love it, it's always fun playing tournements on vacation. I guess i didn't have as good competiotion as you did, cause i beat everyone very easily, but none of them were that good anyway. You went to Turks ? where did you stay / the club med ? I want to go to Turks very badly, i hear the scubadiving is awsome there, did you try ? I went diving in the Bahamas and my 1st dive was with about 75 black/white tip reef sharks.....fuckin wild dude, for the 1st time i see how we are not on the top of the food chain while down there. :D

Mr. C,

In both tournaments I played, I won easily in the early rounds and faced no real competition until the semifinals. The semis and finals were competitive in both tourneys, and my other matches were mismatches/blowouts.

I went snorkeling in Turks but not scubadiving. My French roommate was a scuba guy and brought back pictures of sharks, shot from a cage. I was a little nervous about the sharks while snorkeling. They did have a shark attack fatality down there back in 2002 or 2003, I believe, and natives told me that there have been other attacks. Also saw a lot of fire coral which you have to be careful not to touch.

I went to Turks & Caicos twice and really loved it, especially the beaches and the dry, dry climate. In 14 days there total only rained one day. It's a beautiful place, and as you know just south of the Bahamas.
