(KP International) Sir Sean Connery is expected to be announcing his retirement from the world of acting.


The celebrated Scottish actor is said to be timing his notice of leave with his acceptance of the American Film Institute's Lifetime Achievement Award on June 8 in Los Angeles. The AFI reveres Connery "an international film icon" and "an artist of the highest order."

While it's sad news for the film world, it won't come as a surprise as the former Bond legend leaked his intent to withdraw from acting at the charity function Dressed to Kilt recently.

"I have retired for good," said the 75-year-old. "It's been a bit rough since Christmas but I'm perfectly OK and I feel well. In fact, I'm working on a history book."

Connery's proclamation should eliminate rumours that he may be reprising his role in the upcoming fourth instalment of the 'Indiana Jones' film series.

He was the ultimate James Bond. I also loved his cameo as King Richard in the otherwise forgetful Robin Hood with Kevin Costner. He was also the best dragon of all time with his voice work in Dragonheart. There are too many unforgetable roles to mention here. One of the greatest actors of his generation and his presense will be missed.

I loved how the old James Bond movies were just absolutely blatant with their sexism and portrayal of Bond, glorifying his womanizing, etc. Compared to the Bond films of today.

Old Bond: Hotel clerk hot. Bond bangs her.

New Bond: Female also holds PhD in nuclear physics. Bond doesn't touch her until end of film.

My favorite Sean Connery movies are: 1) From Russia with Love, 2) The Untouchables and 3) The Hunt for Red October. The worst one for me was The Rising Sun but even that was not that terrible. He is a class act and I understand why women find him sexy. BTW, here is a link to his official site:

Interestingly, I never knew "his hobby of bodybuilding culminated in a bid for the 1950 Mr. Universe title where he placed third."

Favorite Red October moment:

Sean has just announced to the crew their "mission". They engage the caterpillar silent drive, and filled with nationalistic pride, they start to sing. The XO tells Sean that the singing can be heard.

Sean looks around, swells with love of his crew, his ship, his country. Defiantly, he orders, "Let them sing."

All while we accept the brogue as being a russian accent.
