As we approach the year 2010, it seems that the LE in Montreal will tolerate all sorts of hobbying activities as long as it is out of site and out of mind, there is no taint of gang or underworld involvement, there are no drugs involved or under age participation. I have not seen or heard of any LE bust for quite a while. Is my perception of the situation correct?

yea when i first started seeing someone from QC i had never heard this term for the police either.. but hey, different country , different sayings and cultures. thats some of the reasons why i love Quebec.... just "different" from anywhere i have ever been..... oh yea, and Quebecoise Ladies are intoxicating and addicting! but thats not a bad thing now is it? :)

Gsxr, I suggest you expunge any offending language against LE. That sort of thing may bring bad luck upon the hobby and then all will be doomed

Nine of 16 suspects, including Martin Emond, will face charges of pimping. They will appear at the courthouse Wednesday in Quebec. The others appear later by way of summons.

Martin Emond was well known to police. The 49-year-old man has been arrested and accused of pimping in 1992.

I agree that that not all the facts seem to be public yet. The police have been investigating for 2 years.

16 arrests?
How many people does it take to run an agency?

They said the agency employed 50 girls. But they also said this was a 2 year investigation, so I'm assuming they included the girls that only worked for a few weeks when they came up with that number.

At least this is a common practice with other indictments, so I think it's safe to assume there were never more than 20 or 25 girls working at any given time. So you've got the boss, a few bookers, I'm assuming no drivers since this was an incall gig...who are the other 12? But say it was an outcall operation and they had 12 drivers, should a driver be charged with pimping?

And what exactly distinguishes pimping from living off the avails?

They news articles don't mention any charges for underage girls or drug dealing. If those elements were involved, no doubt they would have been mentioned in the news story as those are not lesser included offences.

I know this happened in Quebec city and not MTL, are they less tolerant over there when it comes to hobbying?
Also, the article posted above quotes the SQ spokesperson as saying this is "just the beginning" of their operation.

I'm sure the clients and ladies have nothing to worry about. But there are 16 people awaiting trial who though that their actions were "tolerated". Regardless of whether or not they are found guilty, the records of their arrests will never go away.
