I was calmly pedaling along Avenue des Pins last Saturday afternoon when suddenly the front end of my bike dropped some 3 inches, stopping on a dime, and sending me ass over elbows over the handlebars and onto the pavement. It seems that the front tire of my bike had rolled dead-center over a misaligned storm drain, injuring me badly enough to bleed just a little, to bruise a fair amount, to ache for a few days, but sadly not nearly badly enough to launch litigious on the wonderful city of Montreal.
Just an hour ago, I returned to the city and immediately mounted my bicycle and headed off down the bikepath, acutely aware as I rolled along, as never before, of each and every storm drain and whether or not it's properly aligned.
