Unable to clear internet history!

To my amazement, today I noticed that my IE 6.0 did not clear internet history. I tried it again through the control panel, but no https://merb.cc is still up there!

I then did a Google search and found this:

Apparently this software deals with this problem. All you tech gurus, any ideas on why thisis happening and how I should fix it. I can`t upgrade to IE 7.0 because my version of XP Pro is pirated and I do not have the CD.

Be carefull someone made a thread before that merb was under LE surveillance... I guess they are about to get a supena to get your IP adresse and come to your house to seize your computer material because using a pirate version of windows is a crime.

Yes, I am still on IE...don't ask me why. I actually had some computer work done and the guy reinstalled everything with XP Pro. My paid version of XP was home Edition so I can't upgrade to IE 7.0, which is much better.

When I went to Bureau en Gros to buy a new CD of XP Pro, they said I had to get Vista. Microsoft does not sell older versions. This is a company policy for Microsoft.

Fucken software biz...they create new products every three years and force us to upgrade....fucken joke...like Bill Gates needs more money!

But really, Firefox has far more features and is much more efficient (ie actually works) than IE.

If anything, IE 7.0 has 'borrowed' features from Firefox... don't bother upgrading, just change to something better, (and will always remain better). Firefox is constantly being perfected as it is open source, whereas Microsoft will upgrade only if there is a 'threat.'

Microsoft has never done anything innovative in years. If the software I need for work were compatible with Unix or Macs then I'd invest the time to learn a new environment than Windows.

The guy at Bureau en Gros is an idiot, no big surprise. You can buy a legal OEM copy of XP Pro at Microbytes for 189$ or at Frostys for 193.20$ tax free.

By the way...it's been 6 years since XP was released and Vista is long overdue. One reason new software comes out, among other reasons, is to take advantage of the advancements in technology that older software cannot. It's not just a money grab.

FYI, the learning curve for Mac OS X is might short. You'd have to invest somewhere in the vicinity of 15 minutes.

I still maintain that the cheapest/least time consuming solution still is installing Firefox where you can properly clear all your 'Private Data' with 2 or 3 clicks.

Your friend should get Parallels. Costs $80 and will let him run Windoze and Mac OS X side by side.

A refurb 14 inch iMac costs $800 US from Apple. I've used nothing but refurbs, both home, business, and my kids for years with no problems whatsoever.

I have used Opera for more than a year now and it rocks.

Mouse movement to close pages, go back and forth in browser, spelling check are very nice. You almost never have to use the keyboard.
Multiple tabs are a nice touch too.

Forget MAC, Linux is a wet dream and IE sucks. IE 7 is the biggest pile of crap MS has ever released. It's IE 6 with tabs and a crappier user interface. FireFox is the only way to go and get the IE tab pluggin. This way any page that doesn't render well can be viewed in an IE tab with 1 click.

MAC is too geared towards media and just doesn't have the software support you need. If all you need is Excel, Word and Internet then get Mac it will be easier but if you're a tinkerer then stay with Windows. Lots more software available.

Linux...LOL...never ever install Linux on a machine that the end user is not a tech guy. Whatever people say no matter what version they're talking about Linux is just not ready and probably will never be. Ubuntu, redhat or any other distribution is just not mainstream. I should know, I have 2 machines at home...1 windows and 1 linux (not including the 50 or so I have at the office running Linux). I once saw my wife try and use the linux machine...lol was a sight for sore eyes.

Stick with windows XP, wait for SP1 of Vista and anybody that says MS sucks is a geek that just doesn't understand the end user. My favorite argument is that there are 10 times more security holes in MS then Unix...LOL FULL OF CRAP. Install the same amount of apps on the MS machine as Unix machine and you have a 10:1 the other way. IE though is piece of crap but all the other browsers have there holes also.

FIREFOX RULES but who cares as long as you can get your porn that's all that counts

One thing I like prefer Opera for, Firefox doesn't do this, is if you have a handful of tabs open - MERB threads, say - and you close the browser, when you reopen it, they will all load up from memory! Not only that, but they will be stored in the cache and load immediately. No need to save sessions or anything like that. Firefox on the other hand, you lose the open tabs.

You can of course find the Mouse Gesture Add-on in Firefox too.

True, Linux is something else to deal with, but I wouldn't mind learning how to use it and be at that level of interaction with the computer rather than the usual Microsoft choice [OK] or [Cancel].

With Firefox and Opera, you can set it up so that whenever you close your browser, it will junk all the cookies and histories and whatever for you. Throwing away cookies is a must for me (that IE can't do for you, event the IE7), it keeps my machine nice and clean. BTW, do use SpywareBlaster too, it will also keep your machine nice and clean.

Screw Vista, consumes tons of resources for just eye-candy and much, ala much more, DRM. WinXP is my last OS. After this, if I have the need to change, it will be open source. Will never pay ransom prices to msft again.... but have to admit, their .NET is cool, awesome.

Typical complaints from people who know nothing about computers. Vista is much more than eye-candy and DRM is not a Microsoft invention...the content providers require it as they are tired of having their content ripped off and losing money. Ransom prices??? $200 for an OS that you will probably use for 5 years equals $40 a year. Hardly expensive.

As far as system resources are concerned, if your computer isn't strong enough to run Vista then XP probably runs like crap on it also. Systems are getting cheaper and more powerful every day. Why should people who buy new systems be stuck with a 6 year old operating system because your system is too slow to run it? No one is being forced to upgrade anymore than they are being forced to buy a HD television or a Blu Ray disc player.

As far as browsers are concerned...use whichever one you prefer. It's all a matter of personal taste. I've used Firefox but got tired of always downloading plugins to get the same functionality as I get from IE7. Is it faster? Sometimes, but the extra second or two that it takes IE to load a page really isn't going to have a great impact on my life.

As I've said before...if XP works fine for you and you aren't a gamer, you have no need or reason to upgrade. With browsers...hey I like blondes you may like brunettes, same thing here...use the one you prefer but there's no reason to downgrade the others. They all do a good job at surfing the net.

...or Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Quark, GoLive, Dreamweaver, Flash. Or if you play around with photos or listen to music...

However, if you like games or require specialized software relative to a certain industry, perhaps Windoze is where you want to be.

PC cillin

Hello all,

I have been subcribing to Trend Micro PC-cillin for some time now. I really like this system. It adds updated defenses continuously and I have not had an issues since I started using it. Seems like nothing penetrates it as far as I can tell. If anyone knows more about the specifics of this system they could explain it. I am not sure how it affects cookies but I am just enjoying the peace and smooth functioning I get.
