Ridiculous. We already have economic turmoil, add to it political uncertainty and you get "STOCKS-TSX suffers biggest net drop ever"; TSX plunges by ~10% today. It is a global embarrassment

Thanks,
MC

It's not an embarrassment! Minority governments are inherently unstable, but exist in many countries from time to time (Italy and Israel are often cited). Harper forgot that he needed an ally to keep him in power. He's getting what he deserves. If the coalition lasts a couple of years it may turn out to be good for the country, and BTW nobody in the rest of the world gives a flying fuck how Canada governs itself.

How could a political dead man walking become the PM of Canada?

Dion was unpopular among Canadians and the previous elections showed that. It is undemocratic to force the population to have a PM of the political party that they didn't elect. To make things worse, the liberals are allied with two other parties. Each party, most probably, will push their way up the political agenda instead of concentrating on resolving the economical issues.

Don't understand me wrong, I am not a true conservative supporter and I think that Dion is a good person. However, this should never happen and it ain't gonna work!

Thanks,
MC

I am afraid that if we set a precedence where a couple of people can topple a democratically elected government without the consent of the people, then maybe separatists from Quebec can argue that they can secede from Canada WITHOUT a referendum.

none of the parties garnered a majority in the recent election. Canada has an assembly of MPs with NO party having a majority of the seats. The PCs require support from one or more of the other parties to pass a bill. Harper has been an ass and alienated all the other parties who have agreed to cooperate, by forming a coalition, and in their totality will represent a majority in the parliament.

the people elected Members of Parliament. the people did not elect a PC government. Majority rules in a parliamentary system and in this case, the second, third and fourth place parties have formed a coalition that represent a majority of seats, and and a majority of Canadians.

Sorry to say that, but when most people decide to vote they vote based on the party and the leader representing that party. If what you are saying is true, leaders debate wouldn't have taken place at all. Unfortunately, a referendum might be required and this would really show what people want!

Thanks,
MC

The same rules should apply if Quebec decided to have a referendum on separation where not only do the people of Quebec vote but also the people in the rest of Canada have a say if they want Quebec to be part of Canada, after all Quebec is part of Canada.

It's true, legally, no one voted for Harper or Dion (except in their 2 ridings).

But morally, people voted for specific leaders, with a specific platform. The Bloc ran by saying "Give us veto power on Harper". How many seats would they have had if they'd said "Vote for us and we'll keep Dion in power"?

People get pissed when one MP "crosses the floor" to switch parties. What we have here, in effect, are two entire parties crossing the floor.

All the losers are power-hungry and will do anything to obtain it, including compromising their beliefs and climbing into bed with their enemies. The Conservatives do not have a majority but they have more support than any other single party.

These power freaks seking to topple the government are showing no respect for democracy yet are bandying the word about in a blatant attempt to justify their selfish attempts to take over. Is all this BS good for Canada? Not on your freakin' life!

The majority of Canadians did not vote for either party in any sustained fashion.

The west needs to have representation, since and lets face it they are the major bread winners..

No this is a coup and a bad one at that. If its legal is not the issue, it is about the will of the people.

And if you mention that the Conservatives did not get a majority, well neither did the lieberal, ndp nor the bloc.. You cannot use circular reasoning in saying, a vote cast for ndp, lieberal, bloc, marxist, green was a vote agianst the conservatives. Each individual choose their party and the MP they want to elect.

Then lets put it back to the people conservative or coalition.

Ça, Joe. t. c'est de la dictature. Je ne suis pas séparatiste mais si le Québec décide de partir, ils n'ont pas à demander l'autorisation des autres provinces pour le faire

So I guess Madame Marois won't be counting on your vote and that you also voted no in the last referendum?.

Joel... Harper is a fr*kin looser for me ! He decided to go into election thinking he would get a majority. Nobody goes into election against his own law in order to get a 2nd minority gov. so stop insulting us with this stupid assessment that the CONservatives have more support.

I suggest you start to read Harper's policy declaration before accusing others to be Power Freaks.

Harper got a general election against the liberals WITH THE ACCORD of the BLOC on Nov. 2005. So as far as I'm concerned all the Federalist have been in the SEPARATIST bed in order to get what they wanted !

Gaigne d'hypocrites !

I find this all fascinating. Many people are saying the Bloc is forgetting its nationalistic/ Québec first stance... But maybe this will contribute even more to screw up and dismantle Canada than if they were simply to vote against the conservatives and force another election, which may likely give a similar result--i.e. a conservative government, only $300 million later. This could be a separatist's wet dream! Anyhow, how could anyone trust Harper after he behaved the way he did?

The only way to solve this would be to have a proportional representation in the House... This would ensure a more appropriate representation.

Joe T. I would be very please to see you vote in a National Referendum for keeping Quebec in Canada. Then it would mean you would vote for the BLOC to stay in Ottawa because that is what Quebec has been voting ever since !

Capiche ?

It is so funny to see all the harcore federalist that has been saying that the BLOC has no meaning having a fit, knowing the BLOC is still disturbing the Sh*t those federalist made in their pants right now !

GO on ! keep your head in the sand over Albertan's separatists !!!
BWOUHAHAHAHAHAH !!!!

As for Mme Marois ? she can go and f** herself with all the opportunists politicians there is.

Do I care about provincial politics ? no ! because it is PROVINCIAL !

Everybody knows that Charest did the same as Harper.
He can f** himself for the same reasons !

We have an economic crisis and those twits are trying to consolidate their little 4year mandate in order to have their little Lexus !

Wow ! I am impressed !

Hey, Genius, nowhere in my post did I refer to Harper as the second coming of Jesus Christ. Whatever you, I, or anyone else thinks of Harper is irrelevant to this particular discussion, as it has absolutely nothing to do with the fact that the OTHER 3 losers are power hungry. As a parallel, let's say hypothetically that YOU are a criminal. Then, let's say hypothetically that I am also. Well, Genius, in our hypothetical example, the fact that I am a criminal does not negate the fact that you are too!

And as for my "insulting" you, the FACT - as I wrote - is that the Conservatives garnered more support than any other single party. That's not an opinion or a value judgment, Genius, it's a FACT...so unless you find FACTS "insulting", your statement is ludicrous.
