With the new economic, gas-savy small cars nowadays, the Smart isn't that much of a smart choice. Too expensive and not versatile enough. Unless what you need is only urban travel without much highway use. And only if you make enough mileage to make the fuel consumption saving big enough to compensate for all inconvenients. If not, Toyota Yaris beats the Smart hands down.
