Les Chenêts wine collection to be sold off
Wine lovers, place your bids. Part of a mighty wine collection is up for auction June 2-9. The bottles – 3,900 of them – are part of the vast stock that belonged to one of Montreal's old-school French restaurants, Les Chenêts, which closed last year.
Wine Spectator has called the collection one of the best in Canada. The Gazette fine-dining critic, Lesley Chesterman, went farther when she reviewed the Bishop St. restaurant in 2000: "One of the finest in this hemisphere." At one time, it consisted of more than 46,000 bottles. Now, 27,000 remain.
I was going to put this in the restaurant thread but thought it might just get lost there. I know there are a number of fine wine lovers on MERB and thought this might be of interest.
You can find a detailed list of what is being offered here, in downloadable pdf format. Just right click and select 'save target' or click to open in your browser.
