Canada played a very good game & easily could have come out of it with a point. They lost 1-0 due to the go-ahead goal by Belgium on a botched play with seconds left to go in the first half. Alfonso Davies missed a key penalty kick early into the contest & he should have let the more experienced Jonathan David take the shot. But the call should have been made by coach Jon Herdman instead of leaving the players figure it out. The Canucks also could have had another penalty kick or two but the referee screwed up. Belgium is rated #2 in the world & to my surprise were lucky to escape with three points.

Honestly I was not happy about the US Soccer Federation trolling Iran ahead of this match:

I do not believe in ever doing anything that can fire up an opponent prior to a sporting competition. Although this was apparently done as a gesture of solidarity towards the protesters in Iran, there are other ways in which to do that.

Great matches earlier this afternoon! Japan shocked Spain & Costa Rica nearly upset Germany. However since Japan beat Spain it eliminated Germany from the World Cup!
