The Alter Ego
I am an American and occasionally I travel to Canada with an American friend of mine who does most of his hobbying in the USA. He created an alter ego, which is what most married guys with a half a brain do, although my buddy has more than a half brain and he has refined the alter ego business into a science. The alter ego has a fictional first and last name and address, and a fictional ID, and has his own prepaid phone in the USA and his own email account. He has essentially created another person, much like a novelist creates a character. American kids under 21 get into bars with fake IDs all the time, so it's not really that hard. And once the alter ego is created, he can live forever. In my friend's case, his alter ego has been alive for many years.
Anyway he gave me a laugh when we went to Montreal. He insisted I address him as the alter ego when we were in the presence of ladies or third parties, and everything he purchased in Canada, including a prepaid phone, was in the name of the alter ego. And the funny thing is, like a professional actor, I think he really believed he was the alter ego when we were in Montreal. A few times when I addressed him by his real name - in private - he became upset and said that was not his name, and he feigned the offense his alter ego would have if someone forgot his name or did not pronounce his name correctly. He also fucked up and forgot to slip back into his real identity when his wife called him on his real cellphone (he forgot to shut off roaming which I had told him to do, and he thought he was answering the prepaid). It was amazingly funny, and we both laughed about it for the rest of the day. Somehow, he talked his way out of it with her. He is a salesman in the financial industry/portfolio manager, and is an amazingly skilled bullshitter, when he needs to bullshit.
Interestingly, although not surprisingly, my friend, in real life, and his alter ego, are both of the same nationality, and look the part of that nationality, except that my friend was born in the USA and his alter ego was born in the European country from which his ancestors came. I assume he built this into the alter ego because it makes the alter ego more charming, especially since he lost the accent of that country.
It's an amazingly complex and comical fiction, that alter ego of his. However, it is absolutely no different than escorts who all have alter egos.
