I've been coming here for a decade+ and Montreal has easily the best food in all of North America (sorry NYC, California, Mexico City, I am biased)

Joe Beef used to be really good but I think it changed after David McMillan left, I've been there 10+ times

Bouillon Bilk is incredibly good and has never disappointed

Au Pied Du Cochon will slaughter you with heavy foods

L'avenue is good for breakfast/brunch but the wait times are usually god awful

Vin Mon Lapin is #1 right now in my opinion

If you want good Chinese food, I have been to asia 5+ times and the only place I think is decent is maybe nouilles de lan zhou. The line seems long but it's not as bad as l'avenue and it moves faster.
Bathroom is god awful to find though and you have to go downstairs --> take the elevator to the second floor of a mini mall and walk around.

100% agree with this list. You are kind to your taste buds

Vin Mon Lapin truly is the latest hit in Montreal. DELICIOUS!! I love the youthful vibe in the kitchen. The few times I've gone, I've had a blast...

The day Joe Beef removed the double down from the menu is the day everything started going down. They always suggest the damn lobster pasta plate which really bothers me. Its good, but its quite a "simple" dish compared to my expectations of the level of cuisine I'd expect from Joe Beef. Same goes for Liverpool house, a real shame.

I would add the following in order:

Thanks so much for the suggestions, I'll try some next time I'm visiting :)

Fun fact that you may already know, the head of vin mon lapin used to work at Joe Beef for many years since 2010 ish and so did Vanya as a sommelier if I remember correctly

Joe Beef has some good steaks but I think the beef is better at Grinder and a little bit cheaper. Better value for your money and good steaks.

Not a fan of fancy restaurants unless a special occasion, where would one go for good pub food with pleasant waitresses, live band perhaps. Montreal area.

If you're looking for something more west of Montreal, I'd recommend Smoke Meat Pete's in Ile-Perrot. Great smoke meat sandwiches, and always with a live band playing there.

I love Universel on Ste-Catherine, Itali.co at Cote Vertu Mall, Petit Sao on Notre-Dame and for old time greasy food, good old Greenspot is still the best in Montreal IMHO.

Any recommendations?
