I am not a store or a reseller but at times i have a few items for sale on Facebook marketplace. Currently i have a few video games. They are not super expensive titles but they are worth a few bucks (around 40$ or so) either because they are brand new (bough them on PS4 but found Xbox version later before having time to play it) or because they are limited edition or whatever. Anyway its not important but basically...

I put all the details in my ads. I specifically says that if an item is sold, i will update the ads (or remove if all are sold), do not contact me asking "still available?". I also specify my prices are non-negociatable. They are slightly under market value (price charting) and if i want to sell at huge loss ill just bring them to a store for trade credit. But guess what?

I have peoples asking me to sell them 2 games for the price of one (litteraly insulting)
I have peoples texting me the name of the game with NOTHING else. Whats the point of said text? A useless extra step where i need to reply "Yes.. you want to buy?"
And of course the peoples who ask if its still available from time to time, you reply yes, then they never reply back.

Here is how you should contact a seller

Hi, i am interested in "Game 1", when would you be available to meet?

Straight to the point, no haggling, no time waste.

Personally i started simply ignoring those peoples who can't properly communicate, wich is something so simple. And mind you i only get a few of these here and there when i have items for sale (wich ain't often) so now imagine the SW having to endure this EVERY DAY most likely. So yeah thats why i can feel their pain even if its way lower in my case. And thats why as clients we should learn to communicate properly. The least a client can do is read the ads... And if there is nothing specify/asked, just use common sense. I am not the most eloquent person, but i always try to be polite and go straight to the point to not waste time.

Its ok to ask stuff tough. I mean not long ago i contacted a seller wich was selling old Xbox games. He said some had manuals, others not, and as a collector i like my copies "CIB" (Complete In Box) so i contacted him asking if certain games were CIB, and they were not, so i thanked him for the answer and said its not what i am looking for. It was 4 texts total (2 from me, 2 from him, last just being him saying np). In the same vein its ok i think asking a few questions to a provider, but only if you genuinly intend to book if the answers are what you looking for.

Anyway thats just my 2 cents. I still don't get why there is so much peoples like this yet, especially in the hobby.

Even better pay for the item first through PayPal or something. .
Marketplace is more of a "in person" platform. Its not ebay or Amazon and not regulated that way. Unlike ebay where as buyer you have more power, on marketplace if you send deposit etc its at your own risk of getting scammed. Its not recommanded

I get your point of not asking if the item is still available but too many sellers do not remove the ad once it is sold. So I get why some people ask. I will ask but give you my availabilities to pick it up.

I recently saw a one week old ad and I asked if the product was still available and if I can pick it up during the week and I gave him my availabilities. I was polite, straight to the point.

The guy tells me off for asking if the product is still available and that it was sold the same day because the price was good and I am a moron for thinking the product is still available a week after the ad was posted.

I told him off after that because there was no need to berate me for the question.

I know that sadly, happened to me doing the same as you do (asking if still available and when i could come to buy it) but i specifically mention the ads will be removed once sold in mine. They just don't read ;) So a generic "still available?" annoy me.

The generic is it still available? is often sent by mistake. People click on the add & that question is there by default so if you touch the button there it goes. I think it gets hit by accident more often by phone.

Hum possible, that said they could always remove the message once they see it pop or something ;)

Sometimes tough its litteraly just "still avail?" or something like that so they type it.

I believe Facebook Market is the best market place available. It's more secure and easier to deal with. Meanwhile, Kijiji is rife with scams and fictitious listings. At least with Facebook, you can tell if the person is genuine. All you have to do is look at how long he's been on Facebook and see if the photos make sense. At the very least, you can put a face to the seller or buyer. With kjjjj, you don't have a face or any information about the seller or buyer. You could be walking into an ambush. From my experience, Facebook is much safer and easier to use for transactions. People are more serious on Facebook.

I've been selling my art online through online selling platforms, community groups, local markets and places like Kijiji and marketplace for 15 years and can tell you - no one reads lol I don't think the average person reads anything thoroughly and reading comprehension in a lot of people is very poor.

We like to complain about men not reading and while that may be industry specific for severity, but I can't even tell you how many times buyers from my online shop have been like "this print is too small!" And it says literally 5x in the ad the size of the item. And how many people try to go against TOS trying to get refunds when it's their own fault I don't bother with custom orders anymore for this reason. People really like to make things complicated for no reason and more people have a false sense of self entitlement than you realize!

I must say though, this is why my escort website is so thorough with many things clients may find peculiar. Covering liabilities and making things clear and concise as possible takes you a long way! Being a creative professional and having a strong background in customer service has definitely benefitted me in this job.
