Wow WTF is wrong with the Leafs again this season!

What's wrong?? I guess you haven't been watching them very much this season. I'll tell you what's wrong with the Leafs: INJURIES TO KEY PLAYERS.

They were playing great until the injury-bug began to hit them week after week. It started with Dave Bolland going down, then Tyler Bozek, Joffrey Lupul, etc. And when some of those players returned, it wasn't long until the injury-bug hit them again.

The Leafs have run into some bad luck with injuries this season and it's a big reason why they're struggling. However, the defence has been the team's achilles' heel and if something isn't done to improve the defence soon, Tim Leweike will hit the panic button and get some people fired, starting with assistant coach Dave Farrish, who's in charge of defence.

The only bright spot on defence has been the play of Dion Phaneuf, who is having his best season as a Leaf and leads the team in plus/minus even though he always plays against the opposing team's top players.

On a different note, i'd attribute most of the habs' success to the fact they've been able to stay healthy for the most part of the season. Assistant coach J-J Daigneault has also done a magnificient job with the team's defencemen. Not enough credit is given to him for the job he's performed.

Maybe they ought to show him where the back of the net is - only found it twice this season !

Good one!!!

On another note, i haven't been able to find Paul Ranger's tour of Toronto yet. Hopefully they showed him a one-way ticket on the GO train to the Ricoh Centre.

Leafs no longer worst team in professional sports!

Remember this headline from last year?

ESPN ranks Maple Leafs the worst team in pro sports

http://www.ctvnews.ca/canada/espn-r...rst-team-in-pro-sports-1.946851#ixzz2nTVhaqF8

Toronto has moved up to 119 out of 122! Quite the accomplishment!

http://espn.go.com/sportsnation/teamrankings

When you're named the worst team in sports, there's nowhere to go but up. So three spots in the right direction this year is a start for the Maple Leafs, who hadn't ranked below 120 since 2008.

This is BS. Every team has injuries, some more than others. So the Leafs have injuries? Their own coach called them "Brain Dead" just a couple of nights ago. Why would he think of saying that when obviously he is well aware of the injuries. Is he the only one with the balls not to make excuses. The fact is that in the last twelve games the Leafs have played the Predators, Capitals, Blue Jackets, Penguins, Sabres, Canadiens, Sharks, Stars, Senators, Bruins, Kings, Blues and haven't managed a win in regulation against any of them, sometimes getting their ass kicked by teams with injuries and teams at the bottom of the standings.

The simple fact is the Leafs consistently FAIL to out play anybody. Part of that reason is instead of manning up to face opponents and keep the puck to actually score they're taking cheap shots and getting suspended. Phaneuf is a perfect case in point. Something is wrong in their heads.

Run and hide behind the injury excuse but the Leafs are playing like crap. 12 Games without a regulation win..."Brain Dead" says Carlyle, coach of the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Funny that Phaneuf got 2 games for exactly the same hit Pacioretty made on Boychuck a week earlier. Pacioretty didn't even get a sniff. Even local Mtl sports media personality (and former hab) Enrico Ciccone pointed this out on "Le Match" the other night.

Different set of rules when it comes to the habs.

On a different note, what's wrong with Lucic this year? First he gets beat up by some unknown Washington player in the preseason, and in their last game against the Oilers he gets pummeled by the Oilers tough guy. What gives? Is his career on decline or is it due to personal reasons?

He hasn't been the same player. Maybe the pressure of trying to make Canada's Olympic team?

Yet Phaneuf still fears him. Go figure.

I'd say there's a lot more to it than injuries.

Every team has injuries at some point, especially with all the illegal stuff going on (as indicated by suspensions - for illegal, dangerous actions! - to players such as Thornton, Kessel, Phaneuf, Clarkson, Kadri, Ashton, Neal...).

Tampa Bay, which you have called a weak team, is doing better than the Leafs, despite missing the great Steven Stamkos, who is all by himself a far bigger loss than all the injured Leafs put together.

Detroit, which you have repeatedly called "lowly", is doing better than the Leafs, despite missing at various points this season: Datsyuk, Zetterberg, Helm, Franzen, Howard, De Keyser, Bertuzzi, Weiss, Alfredsson!!!!!!

Tampa Bay and Detroit are NOT using injuries as an excuse! Neither are any other teams in the NHL (e.g.: Quick in LA).

Yet you cite injuries as the reason for Leaf failure? Come on Doc.

Did i not just say this earlier? I think I did! :)

As said on HNIC 2nite, "The Leafs Played The Champs Tonight And Made Em Look Like Chumps" .....:thumb:

GLG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hopefully, Carlyle will keep Liles (who also played a solid game), over guys like Ranger and Fraser who have been quite disappointing so far.

Hey guys I did not see the game but from what I can see in the boxscore, Chicago played a backup goalie who was shelled, pulled and then a 3rd string goalie who also got lit up, all because Crawford is out with a lower body injury. Last year the Black Hawks had 2 good goalies in Crawford and Emery, and then they let Emery go and he is now with Philly I think. But now it looks like the Hawks might be weak at that backup goalie position. When you have 2 goalies playing and neither one is saving more than 80% of the shots attempted against him, it's not a good thing. It is like a baseball pitcher with an ERA over 6.

It was actually their third stringer (Raanta) that started (their backup, Khabibulin is also injured), got pulled and their 4th stringer (probably just out of junior) came in and gave up a couple of goals. Of course, for Leaf fans, this victory must seem like winning the Cup!

It seems as if some members have forgotten what this thread is for and what the Free For All thread is for. If you are not a Leafs fan, keep your ass out of this thread. You have both the official NHL thread to post in as well as the Free For All. This thread is for Leafs fans ONLY.
