I know plenty of people who did not have more because of money, what is your point? Hahaha?. I am guessing that you do not have kids or know many people with grown kids and know the real cost to raise kids, it is going up every year, my 19 yr old cost me about 25K last year, imagine if you had 4 kids...

Easy going said:

500 for 5 kids equals 2500 per month. That is not that much given that you need to feed, clothe, entertain (PlayStation, iphones...), birthday parties, sporting activities, daycares, allowance..etc for each child. That 2.5K/month may not even last the entire month.

You actually think that these families enroll their kids in sports, buy them playstations, put them in daycare or give them I-phones? Really? Is child credits supposed to pay for all the bills? Should not someone who has 5 kids not have a decent job and not be a leach to the taxpayers who fund this? You think it is fair that a hard working family that has 1 or 2 kids and pays taxes should have to pay for some unemployed family that has 5 kids and they should have the same treasures they have?

I am not a socialist ... actually far from it. I tend to lean towards the right. I am one who strongly believes that able bodied persons should contribute to society and not be a burden to fellow taxpayers. There is also the issue of responsibility. If someone plans to have 5 kids, they should also have the financial means to support these kids, otherwise the government should not be footing the bill for their reckless and irresponsible behavior. Just my 2 cents.

There are numerous crucial issues related to this horrible story. Certainly this couple is highly disturbed. As a society, we do need to understand how people like this become so disturbed. Likely they were subjected to child abuse as well, though this cannot be taken as an excuse. We also need to understand what it is about our society that families like this can go unnoticed and unreported for decades. Our whole society is becoming increasingly fractured, with lip service being paid to "mental illness", but almost nothing done to prevent child abuse. Institutions, and individuals often turn a blind eye to evidence of abuse. As a society, we are all responsible for the occurrence of situations like this. All abuse of children needs to grab our attention and be stopped.

Good point Sam. This is a crucial issue with child abuse. Few people, whether in media or government, actually want to really deal with the issue.

All I can say is thank goodness all of the children (and some adults) are safe now and both of those responsible for these unmentionable crimes are in police custody. This couldn’t have come soon enough. When you’re dealing with mentally unstable individuals, all bets are off. This brings back memories of another deranged lunatic (David Koresh) who brainwashed innocent people in Waco, Texas and as a result of his actions, many of those innocent people perished in a fire at his compound when he refused to give himself up to authorities.

Let’s hope that those victims involved in this latest ordeal can get the help they need in an attempt to try and rebuild their lives and live as much of a normal life as possible.
