It could very well have been an inside job in order to rid the 'family' of the Rizzuto influence & allow for some of the underbosses to move up on the organizational chart.
Vito know who killed his son. When he will get out of jail they will go shoot the ones that killed his son.
People think that since vito and many mafioso got busted, the montreal italian mafia is dead.... well, let me tell you its just the beginning of another story. They recruited many new people to continue the work while the boss is in jail, and then when he will be free it will start again, like if nothing happened.
When will he get out of jail? When he's 100 years old?
Actually, good ol' Vito only has himself to blame for his kid's death. When you chose a life of crime, your loved ones will suffer the consequences that occur because of YOUR decisions.

Yea but well, even if vito don't get free before 100 years old, he will find a way to shoot the ones that killed his son. There is still many mafioso in montreal that did not get busted (and they will be more and more with the time) so they don't really need vito to go shoot him...
Not quite.... and he's already served part of the sentence:
"while Vito Rizzuto was in prison in the U.S., where he continues to serve a 10-year sentence for a racketeering conviction involving the 1981 killings of three Mafia captains" -- Philip "Philly Lucky" Giaccone, Alphonse "Sonny Red" Indelicato and Dominick "Big Trin" Trinchera -- from the Bonanno crime family in New York City "
