Honestly, I cant wait for the NHL season to resume, I never been so fond of the World Cup or Olympics tournament format!

For sure there is very good players taking part in these but, there is not enough time to built a strong system and good chemistry, because there is not enough practice time together.

I don’t like the "do or die" side of it, hockey being a game of momentum , a team can be crowned because, on a given day, they played way over their head. A best of 7 games tends to balance things up and, in the end, you can say that the best team wins.

Puck will drop on USA v. Canada Gold Medal hockey game at 8:10 a.m., tomorrow so rise and shine for some breakfast hockey.

Canada is a slight favorite but this is the most talented hockey team the USA has ever fielded at the Olympics, and it is also a healthier team than the team that faced Canada for 4 Nations Gold when the Tkachuks and McAvoy were all injured.

Already planned a huge omelette with potatoes, ham, corn, mushrooms, peppers, cheese, parsley, and onions. Cooked medium. This will be a difficult game for Canada.

For game time I am baking Maine Homestead Blueberry Cornbread. It's really good, and that and coffee will be my hockey breakfast. The cornbread will go in the oven at 7:30 am and by the time puck drops at 8:10 am it will be cooled and ready to eat!

It would go well with my 8am Cuba Libre haha

So far US is playing for gold... Canada is just playing...

It should be noted that USA Hockey swept both gold medals- men and women- each team won a Gold medal, earning OT victories over the Canadian teams. The USA Hockey Development Program is now the envy of the world, and is showing the world that we can have and develop the best hockey players, within a team concept.

Great game to watch, very entrrtaining and played clean, no refs trying to steal the show and, as expected, two amazing teams. Hats off to Hellebuyck, he finaly delivered when it counted the most!

My only complain would be the decision to play 3 vs 3 in overtime. Its too important of a game for such a shit show, imagine a Stanley cup final 7th game getting decided on a 3 vs 3 overtime goal!!!

Gutsy performance by the USA hockey team!...Looks like it was written in the stars...46 years to the day since the "Miracle on Ice" and the Jim Craig goaltending heroics at the Lake Placid Olympics and this year being the USA's 250th Anniversary Celebration...today it was Connor Hellybuck's miracle saves!
Unbelievable goaltending!
The Eagle soars...Free Bird...Lynyrd Skynyrd!!!

Hellybuck's save on Devon Toews with the stick paddle reminded me of the Ken Dryden game robbing save on Jim Pappin in the 1971 Stanley Cup Finals at the Chicago Stadium!

And Connor McDavid/McJesus whatever you want to call him now has the official tag of the newest LOSER joining the ranks of Josh Allen and formerly Austen Matthews :
2024 Stanley Cup Finals = LOSER
2025 Stanley Cup Finals = LOSER
2026 Winter Olympics = LOSER

McDavid has managed to pull off the hat trick!!!

IMHO he played very selfishly in OT, trying to do everything by himself and be the hero of the day! Charging the net wrecklessly combined with Makar pinching at 3 vs 3 lead to the USA goal! I think Suzuki could teach them a thing or two on how to play 3 against 3!!!

Agree. Exciting game to watch, a whopping 42 shots from Canada, some missed opportunities and Hellebuyck did the rest. It sucks, but congrats to the Americans.

But 3 vs 3 OT on the highest scene possible.....really IIHF? Really IOC? Even the NHL does not do that with its finals. This is an Olympic Gold medal game, not a practice.

Hockey players are tougher than any other athletes in team sports. Jack Hughes gets a few teeth knocked out and scores the winning goal. Great game, great performance by both teams. Yes, 3 on 3 to decide the game is pretty random, but if Canada had won, few Canadians would be complaining. And everyone knows the rule going into O/T. It’s a very short tournament so 3 on 3 in O/T makes sense. Canada had plenty of chances to win it in regulation and they didn’t get the job done.

I agree with this. I thought making it a 3 on 3 heavily increases the chances of a lucky break, of a bad bounce or carom type of thing winning the game. It was a really good game and Canada played well, but once it went to OT someone was going to win and someone was going to lose, and a hero was going to be made. I was kind of glad it was Jack Hughes as he was Team USA's best offensive player in the Olympics. Although Hellebuyck was the MVP of the game.

I watched the replay of the entire sequence leading to Jack Hughes goal and Hughes should have an assist on his own goal as well as Werenski- it's absurd to give the other assist to Hellebuyck. Hughes clearly tipped the puck up the ice away from Makar and that set the whole play in motion. After Werenski raced down the puck Hughes skated to exactly where he needed to be to receive the pass from Werenski and score. Hughes set the whole play in motion by tipping the puck up the ice and away from Makar, and that was what set up the goal scoring play. Hughes should have gotten an assist on the goal, not Hellebuyck:
