I tip my hat off to Brian Burke for the team he built & to Ron Wilson, who's coaching was among the best in the entire tournament.

95% of team USA’s selections were no brainers and what coach wouldn’t have started Miller.

The U.S. was able to get as far as they did not because of Burke and Wilson but despite Burke and Wilson.

Just think about this:

The three biggest goals in Canadian hockey history are from Paul Henderson and 2 guys who live in the same house in Pittsburgh.

USA coach Ron Wilson says NHL players should play in Sochi at next Olympics

VANCOUVER — It’s going to be a tough couple of days for Team USA coach Ron Wilson.

First there was the disappointment of losing the gold-medal game to Canada in overtime Sunday evening. And now he has to go back to his regular job, coaching the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Still, the letdown of losing such a hard-fought game didn’t prevent Wilson from speaking out about certain issues in a post-game media conference, specifically about whether NHL players should play at the next Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia and the way the European teams played at these Games. Wilson said NHLers should go to Sochi.

“We do a pretty good job of stealing players from every country and I think we owe their fans an opportunity to witness a tournament like this,” Wilson said. “But if we do go to Sochi, I would urge the NHL to give the players a couple of extra days. That’s a long way to travel.”

Wilson said, rightly, that his team played just as well as Canada Sunday, and lauded both teams for their style of play.

“I would hope that they play the game (in Sochi) on this (NHL size) ice surface because I think the games are so much better,” said Wilson. “The game had so much intensity and Canada and the United States play the game the way it should be, not sit back on your heels waiting for something bad to happen and counter-punching, but actually going on the attack. I know Mike’s (Babcock) teams play that way, I try to play that way — not very successfully right now with our (team) in Toronto.”

At which point a roomful of journalist began laughing.

“That’s nothing to laugh at,” he snapped. “I’m teaching them to play the right way. Not the Slovakian, or Czech or the Russian way, where you sit back and wait and wait and wait. We’re on the attack. This was a classic hockey game. To me it’s exactly the way the game should be played.

“The game was invented in Canada and I think we in the United States have morphed into the same style of play, and it’s fun to coach that way,” Wilson said.

Nah! Cap space is a management problem, not a fan's. As long as the Leafs aren't stuck with contracts like Gomez', it's all good. :D

Wilson: Best team doesn't always win gold

Sometimes, the best team in the tournament doesn't win a gold medal.

That's right, Wilson went there. He said Canada wasn't the best team in the 2010 Olympic hockey tournament, despite the fact that his players were wearing silver around their necks.

"The game tonight had so much intensity. Canada and the United States play the game like it should be -- not sitting back and playing on your heels and waiting for something bad to happen and counter-punching, but actually going on the attack.

"I know Mike (Babcock)'s teams play that way and I try to play that way, not very successfully right now with my team in Toronto."

That crack at the Maple Leafs, Wilson's current NHL home, drew ripples of laughter from the packed press conference.

This was not a surpise after all. Canada is and will always be the best country in the world in hockey. Some countries play not too bad but the're not as good as our beloved country. We must be proud to be Canadians. The Americans were not even a threat

Hello Portagoras,

"The Americans were not even a threat"...LOL...obviously you are either making an ironic joke or in serious need of help!

I didn't like seeing the U.S. losing the final, but considering how Canadians feel about being able to win at home and the national heartache there would have been had Canada lost, I am happy for you. But what the hell are you talking about??? Now, just the facts. You got beat once and won once. You won the right game...in overtime. Canada had to hang on against the Slovakians and were taken to the mat by the U.S. It was a very even game decided by someone who made the right move at the right moment, and he happened to play for Canada. But there was no dominance. Shots on goal were U.S.A. 36 Canada 39; and in each period Canada was getting stuffed in it's own end in the back half of the periods.

Maybe your statement is just part of the celebration and your excitement...a ironic little fun in relief of a HUGE scare! As I said, I'm happy Canada won for the sake of it's national love of the sport and it's honor. But it is enlightening that some Canadians just don't get it.

Don't forget that many of these AMERICAN players who were bred in the U.S. and learned their skills at home are picked by and play for Canadian teams in Canadian cities by Canadian HOCKEY EXPERTS who believe they are good enough to play for Canadian fans and that these players have earned the right to play under Canadian standards in the NHL... a Canadian creation. Your statement is a mindless slap at all of that. Canadian hockey is now thriving off of an American product and Canadian hockey is not dominate any more. The U.S. proved that and your statement only displays unintelligent arrogance. Team Canada won the day. Great for you. But, if the statement in bold italic above was meant seriously at all...get a clue.

Cheers,

Merlot

No better way to end it for team Canada. Crosby getting the golden goal for the gold medal on Canadian ice.

Deserve to stand tall and be proud - yes.
But to say the Americans were not a threat...was there another game on? Or was there a ha, ha in there and you just could not add it because the smileys here suck?

If not, I must have watched the wrong game too...

PS Another vote for Canada AFTER the game...you're killin' me...LOL

Yes, but we probably didn't drank the same amount of beer!!!!!!

Merlot is right, my comment (as usual) is sarcastic. Bravo! At least there's somebody that can read between the lines.

Hardly surprising that the concept of "best" (or even "good") would be totally foreign to Wilson. :)
