Hungry, as far as the Tigers, they have been a big disappointment so far this season but it wont last all season, thats for sure. They are too good of a team and play in a weak division, they will be a playoff team come October.

And Cabrera and Fielder are playing well. I read a report a week ago (prior to Jackson's return from the disabled list) that said that other than Fielder and Cabrera, every other starter or contributor from last year on the active roster had an OBP 50 points lower than last year. We got two pieces back in the past two days and Fister is supposed to be activated for Saturday. They have had AAA, AA, and a high A player on the team and in the line-up!

Also Valverde couldn't get the ball over the plate. That has changed as well.

Exactamundo Beav, is there a better GM at mixing and matching a team than Cashman?, unlike the clueless managers over in Boston. Prime example, the Gonzalaz deal with the Padres just might turn out to be the biggest fleecing of the century, it sure is starting to look that way.

Yup...start the parade...new year, same time, same old yankee crap...award the trophy and cancel the last 100 games...:rolleyes::rolleyes:....

Maybe the red sox could put a package together for Cain..... say Ortiz, Gonzalez, and Bard? I doubt the Giants take that tho. Throw in Pedroia and you would have yourself a great pitcher.

Good idea, spare yourself and the Red Sox some more misery, why do you think that rumples, SK and Merlot do not post in this thread anymore, because they know the season is over for Boston, they cancelled the season after the first 10 games and already looking toward next year.

How the Red Sox can still win the AL East

by Ken Rosenthal

I actually think the Boston Red Sox can still win the American League East.

The Sox will need to get past all of their agendas and egos, but they still have talent — talent in the majors, talent on the disabled list, talent in the minors.

It’s a long season, folks. A period of adjustment is expected under a new manager, especially one as polarizing as Bobby Valentine. And the Sox continue to sort through options — left-hander Franklin Morales made his first start Sunday night, outfielder Ryan Kalish his season debut in center.

If right-hander Josh Beckett can’t stay healthy, the Sox indeed might be doomed. But here is my four-step program for a Red Sox revival — nothing fancy, just a series of fairly obvious moves that would help transform the club.

1. Put Daniel Bard back in the bullpen

A rival executive said it would be “the definition of stubbornness” for the Sox to give Bard another shot at the rotation. So why bother?

Yes, the Sox lead the majors with a 2.01 bullpen ERA since April 23. But think of how they could shorten games in the second half if their 'pen included Bard and a healthy Andrew Bailey, along with three other thriving right-handers: Alfredo Aceves, Vicente Padilla and Scott Atchison.

A week ago, the Sox also had three lefties, but with Rich Hill back on the DL, they will be down to one if Morales remains in the rotation. Not ideal, but Bard held lefties to a .539 OPS from 2010-11. Remember that guy?

2. Dump Kevin Youkilis

I say “dump” and not “trade” because a trade involves some sort of equivalent value. Maybe the Sox could add younger, more attractive players to a Youkilis package and get a legitimate return. But right now, such a move is difficult to foresee.

Rival executives doubt the Red Sox will be cornered into designating Youkilis for assignment — a spot will open with some other club, particularly if the Sox cover most of Youkilis’ remaining salary, which right now is just more than $8 million.

Purging Youkilis would increase the demands on rookie Will Middlebrooks, but it also would enable the Sox to stop playing Adrian Gonzalez in right field, which will be a necessity, anyway, as Cody Ross, Carl Crawford and Jacoby Ellsbury start to return from injuries.

Youk needs to go, sooner rather than later, for the sake of everyone involved.

3. Trade for a starting pitcher

Well, duh.

Even with the emergence of lefty Felix Doubront and recent improvements of left-hander Jon Lester and righty Clay Buchholz, the Sox are 12th in the AL with a 4.79 rotation ERA, ahead of only the Royals and Twins.

Cubs right-hander Matt Garza would be the most obvious fit — righty Ryan Dempster might be too big a gamble in the AL East — but other options could emerge as the July 31 non-waiver trade deadline approaches.

A little creativity, please.

The Sox would need to part with one or more of their precious prospects — I would think about moving Ryan Lavarnway, given the performance of Jarrod Saltalamacchia and industry-wide shortage of catching.

In any case, this is a team with expendable outfielders, expendable relievers and the ninth-best farm system in baseball, according to Baseball America.

Figure it out.

4. Be patient

The New York Yankees can’t play much better than they have lately, and still Boston's deficit still is only 7-1/2 games, with nearly 100 to play.

This isn’t over. It isn’t nearly over.

The Sox are a work in progress, a team that will continue to evolve.

Yankees Winning Streak

The Yankees have won 9 straight games and 3 straight series sweeps against teams with winning records, the longest such winning streak in NY Yankees franchise history. Before we get too excited about this, it should be noted that in 2008 the Toronto Blue Jays won 10 in a row against teams with winning records, the last such major league streak of its kind.

Sabathia vs. Minor tonight as the Yankees seek win #10 in a row.

Yankees starting pitching in June: 11-1 record, 1.97 ERA

Yankees' 26 errors is the least of any major league team. This resembles what the team did in 2009 when they had a long errorless games streak.

Congratulations to Alex Rodrigues on passing Mel Ott for 11th place on the all time run list.:thumb:

Also congratulations to the Yankees for their ten game winning streak, this is truly a remarkable run considering the obstacles, I have a feeling that this team that they have put together this year will be very special.

It's been two things, great starting pitching coupled with power. Tonight the Yankees hit 2 more homers and lead the major leagues with 101. The National League teams the Yankees have been beating do not have anywhere near the power that the Yankees have. The Yankees have 6 guys in their lineup that have 10+ homers and 30+ RBIs. No other major league team has more than 3. The NL teams are weak and the Yankees now have a 168-109 Interleague record all time which demonstrates the dominance over these weaker, powerless NL teams that do not carry the same amount of lumber in their lineups.

Bobby V: Olney doesn't know 'anything'

Before Tuesday's series opener with the Marlins at Fenway, Red Sox manager Bobby Valentine joined his players in vehemently denying a report this week that the atmosphere inside clubhouse is "toxic." Olney reported that players and team staff are frustrated with the way the team is being handled inside the clubhouse, leading to a potentially explosive atmosphere.

"I don't know to define toxic," Valentine said Tuesday afternoon in his first public comments since Olney's blog that ripped the Red Sox culture. "It's too big a word for me. "I'm not going to comment on people's articles. I don't even comment on [Boston media] articles. Why would I comment on somebody who I don't think knows anything."
After about seven minutes of answering questions, the subject of the Red Sox clubhouse came up again.

"It's a bunch of guys who get dressed and play loud music before the game and seem to get ready. I don't have a word for it. I don't think it's Romper Rooms or whatever it is, it's a lot of guys. It's a lot of men who hang out together, and a lot of changing parts in there, too."

Josh Beckett was even stronger about Olney's column.
"Completely fabricated," Beckett said before being asked if he thought the Red Sox still had a good clubhouse. "Absolutely. I don’t know where people get that from. I think people want that to be the case and I just don’t think it is. I think this is probably one of the tightest-knit groups I’ve ever been a part of, with dinners on the road, a couple family trips here this last time. We do a lot of stuff together. There’s a good continuity here. I think there are certain people, they want it to be that way, and so they report it that way. it’s just not like that at all."
Beckett was then asked if he's bothered by the speculation.

"That people are trying to sabotage us? I don’t think that’s good at all," Beckett said. "We don’t pay too much attention to it. the only time we have to deal with it is when we have to answer questions. This is a really good group of guys. It’s one of the tighter groups I’ve ever been a part of, and I’ve been a part of some pretty tight groups."

746 = # of consecutive home sellouts as the Red Sox break the previous record of 745 set by the Red Sox.

1,000 = # of W's posted by the current ownership group since aquiring the team in 2002...:thumb:.

Good come from behind win by the Yanks tonight vs the mets and they showed once again why the name "Bronx Bombers" fits them to a T.

I must say that Joe Giradi has become a great manager. The way he has used the bullpen and timely pinch hitting he has sent to the plate this year is great stuff. He has got so much out of guys like Eppley and Rapada not to mention some of the others in the pen. Robertson is back in form and cant say enuf for the job Soriano is doing in the closers role. While the Yanks are not clicking on all cylinders just yet, they are still winning.... could be scary once they start hitting.

Another quality start for Nova...man is this guy a diamond in the ruff so far in his young career or what!? He is a sensational 25-6 since he arrived in the bigs full time, and is proving he is the real deal despite what some "homers" think....good stuff...
