The australian market is much much higher ($235 a gram in Australia and $215 in New Zealand), that is why the gangs recruit "mule" to bring it there, it's worth it. The gang will pay the "mule" to transport from 150 to 200k. And there is some young innocent stupid people to say yes to that... They now face the crime to the value of the net worth!

Really, it's sad. The article didn't say how or whether the authorities got tipped off or they were simply thorough. But I'd imagine if the three of them were dumb enough to get tickets together a 63 year old with two swinging hot babes must have been at least puzzling to others. It all adds up to an idiotic choice that will cost their remaining youth. Dumb Dumb Dumb.

22 millions US is about 31 million australian at the moment. Quite accurate.

I have read that authority got tipped off by the US dept. of Homeland security. It was easy from there to follow their path via their social media page.

I would be very surprised if he was the brain or the head of this organisation.
In my opinion and if i may speculate, i think he is also a mule of the organisation that probably had previous experience in this kind of smuggling.
He was possibly leading the trio and giving them some ''training '' and directives.
At the same time they could act on the ship as if the two girls didn't know the gentleman so per example if the girls had a problem in their room like a chamber maid finding something suspicious the could move the cocaine in the other room or vice-versa.
