For passports you need proof of Canadian citizenship. (Not just your previous passport.) So that can be your birth cirtificate, or your citizenship card, or whatever it is that you have. They should have a list of the acceptable documents at the passport canada site.

Except that levelling the country wasn't the point of the invasion. So that wouldn't get the job done.

I went years ago. End of September/beginning of October is about as late as I would go, since it gets ugly and gray in the winter there. I didn't go to a PrivateHaus, but the RLD was fun.

Ned_Braden, you should go try Il Sole (http://english.montrealplus.ca/portal/profile.do?&profileID=513666). Great food, wonderful wine selection, way cheaper than Le Latini but still superb quality, I can't recommend it highly enough. Another good place that's even cheaper but still yummy...
